I hope there's lots of singing.:)

Looks good to me too, my kind of movie. Well, my kind of movie unless I find out they hired off-their-meds epileptics to film the thing.

Now that it is finally being released in theaters today, I feel comfortable saying that my wife and I liked this when we saw a still-in-production screening of it back on 1/3/13. It was very cool and exclusive - it was mostly completed, but the score was still in production so it borrowed some from other films just to have the sound in there. Several special effects were yet to be added so we saw some unfinished scenes but overall it was enough to get a feel for the film as a whole - and enough to make us want to go see the finished film once it comes out.

Got passes to "a movie screening" and knew no other details going in. It was hilarious while waiting in line because people kept asking all of us what we were in line to see and none of us knew. They had us fill out extensive information forms and go through a TSA-like screening and wanding in order to enter the theater. Absolutely no cameras, phones, etc. We all signed papers stating that we would not leak out any details of the film before its release and would be subject to as much as $5 million in damages if we violated this clause. They did not tell us what we were there to see until right before the lights dimmed and the movie started. After the movie they had us fill out surveys rating different aspects of the movie, the actors, etc.

Neat story BIM.

This is the first of two White-House taken by terrorists plots of 2013. Jamie Fox is in the other one I think.

I will see both.

Saw it last night at midnight. 8 out of 9 guys on the squad agreed that it was a solid entertaining movie and we all enjoyed it. The one lone guy said it was the cheesiest movie he had ever seen.

Well I definitely enjoyed it. Well paced and good brutal action!

I love this part of an article on White House Down:

The movie (not to be confused with Olympus Has Fallen, starring Gerard Butler, which also went by White House Down at one point) focuses on a secret service agent who is tasked with saving the life of the U.S. President after the White House is overtaken by a paramilitary group.

In a van...down by the river.
Solid,FUN action flick with some pretty tight moments. There are moments of complete ridiculousness of course...
So the US military response time to a White House siege is about 15 minutes huh... Thats good to know. I'm pretty sure the liquor store at the corner gets better results than that. SILLY...but it was fun to watch.

Very reminiscent of the original Die Hard film, IMO.

It was a lot of fun, with great action, and Gerard Butler nailed it. It was also horrifically bad, with so many plot holes and stupid writing mistakes that I laughed. Still, it was fun to watch and worth the price of admission. It's no Die Hard--I won't buy it, or watch it again--but I wasn't mad at my friend for having me see it.

this was horrifically bad...and boring...and stupid.

at least in White House Down, when the President was faced with the death of a little girl, or the death of million, there was SOME semblance that he was actually the President, telling the little girl he couldn't put her life over millions.

I thought White House Down, while being RIDICULOUSLY STUPID/CHEESY, was 10 times the movie Olympus was.

I haven't seen White House Down and I did like Olympus Has Fallen but I was bothered by the weakness of the President and the temporary President too. I was also bothered by the stupidity of the General, stubbornly and without reason ignoring on site-intel and sending those Seal teams to their death. The President telling the other two to give up their codes was insanely stupid and then conceding to the terrorist demands put a cherry on the top of it all. But I was in the mood for some mindless action last night and this was just that, mindless action.

It's official - cheesebeef should write a film involving a White House takeover which blows both of these films away. C'mon, cheese !! :D

All you have to do is adapt Transfer of Power. It's the Vince Flynn novel where he introduces Mitch Rapp.

That shouldn't be hard. All that has to be done is go one step higher than trained monkeys.

That said, I didn't mind the movie, I like Gerard Butler in this kind of role, and all I could think of is this is SOOO much better than the Die Hard fiasco. Maybe that made it better than it should have been in my eyes.

I have yet to see White House Down, but it sounds godawful. Just some of the things that I've heard about it...

that scene REALLY bothered me and it's what made me appreciate WHD more. When confronted with the same choice, he turned to a 11 year old girl and said "You know I can't give him that code, right?" She nodded and he didn't. In a movie chalk full of complete cheese (and good cheese IMO) it at least had a President act presidential in that moment of truth. it's a nitpicky thing, I know, but at least it made me feel like the guy was the President, as opposed to Aaron Eckhart's ***** president.

Someone told me in White House Down, there's a scene of the two guys in a limo or car or something racing along the White House grounds with terrorists hot on their tail. The military is outside the gates and can see everything, but just watch. Um, what?

oh yeah...that scene is ludicrous...but the entire movie is ludicrous, which is why I dug it more. at least WHD understood what type of movie it was and just went it for it. OHF was seemingly taking itself seriously and that's why I thought that movie sucked.

We've agreed on so much recently, I guess it was inevitable that we'd disagree on SOMETHING... lol

I thought Olympus Has Fallen is the best Die Hard movie of 2013!

Not to nitpick but there was a police response in a matter of seconds but they were obliterated by the C-130 with the miniguns and the trash trucks. They were talking about the military response. That said, that's still a hell of a long time to deploy something that should be at the ready. Also, there is no way an unidentified plane gets that deep into DC. Not post 9/11.

Yeah, I agree with your comment about the codes. Made me almost want to stop watching.

Overall I thought it was a decent action flick. I didn't care enough about the characters to get very invested in the film though.

Found this interesting:

In the special features, it mentions that the attack on the White House was planned by former Secret Service agents who were asked how they would attack it if they had to.

It’s funny, but the first in this trilogy was easily the weakest. As I noted earlier, this one took itself too seriously but the second one in London and the third where Mike was framed just went to ludicrous speed from the get go and were super entertaining.

I'll check them out then. This was on the verge of being cheesy but didn't take it far enough. I'm all for ludicrous speed cheesiness.
