She's a freshman basketball player at Cal. Yesterday they announced her playing career is over due to a recently discovered heart condition. She had collapsed after a practice and after a couple of weeks in the hospital they announced she had to have a defibrillator surgically implanted due to a previously undetected congenital heart problem. She's lucky to be alive and cal will honor her scholarship.

What makes it truly sad is she's 19, and just over a year ago she was in the news in HS when her father was murdered at halftime of one of her games. I think she's from Berkeley, I don't remember the whole story but for some reason her dad left the gym at halftime to go to his car in the parking lot across the street and was gunned down and killed. Tierra first announced she was going to quit playing basketball but then changed her mind when her family convinced her that her father would have wanted her to keep playing.

So one year later she's forced to quit.

Very sad situation, the only good part is they found out while she's still alive.
