First of all, Merry Christmass everyone.

Secondly, just think that as bad as we were this year, we get to look forward to the killer schedule of finishing first place in our division. Now, if that doesn't wanna make u hurl, I don't know what will.

the first place schedule really doesnt matter much anymore.

The Cardinals played a second place schedule this year -- and got Carolina and Minnesota as a result. Had they played a first place schedule, they would have gotten Tampa Bay and Green Bay. Which do you think was harder?

The Cards play the AFC South and the NFC North in 2009 -- on balance, probably no harder than this years. They get the Giants again and whomever ends up first in the NFC south.

The one upside is that it looks like there will be only two trips to the east coast next year.

Progress next season will depend solely on the front office. They need to sign and re-sign key players. Also, we need upgrades at DC and ST coach. They also need to draft smart like they did this year.

This team is one step away from being a legit superbowl contender. If they screw this up like they did in 99, im going to be very upset

Sorry but this team is not close to being a superbowl contender. They are just an average team and going the wrong direction at this point.

5-11 at best next year if one or two if our division rivals get better. If all three get better we might be a 3-13 team

Didnt you start a thread about us natives making excuses about this team. Perhaps one needs to be posted about out of towners and their pessimism. I don't know whats more nauseating.

Come on. Most of the out of towners are just as optimistic as us Zonians.

I agree... this team is no way near a super bowl contending team. So many holes are there and upgrades needed in staff and players. Plus this team is mentally not tough and not disciplined enough to be even mentioned with SB.

I think the Cards should just petition the league to allow them to just forfiet this first playoff game.

We stink and obviously have no chance.

It could be worst, our first game might be on the road against the Giants, followed by a Thursday night game against the Panthers. Oh yeah! Things can get a lot worse if the NFL scheduler has his dastardly way. :)

As of now, i think their schedule look quite a bit easier next year.
Home-SF,Sea,Stl, GB,Minn, Hou,Ind, Atl/Car
Away-SF,Sea, Stl, Chi, Det, Jax, Tenn, NYG

Tenn and the Giants are the only 2 games where i would say the Cards would be decided underdogs. And that's assuming Tenn doesn't give the ball back to Vince Young.

This years road schedule of Philly, Jets,Was, NE, and Car was absolutely brutal. Look at those teams records 8-6-1,9-6,8-7,10-5,11-4 that's a combined 46-28-1. That's a 63% winning pct. Next year's combine record right now is 38-36 for 51%.

This year's home sched was no picnic either with NY,Dal,Minn,Mia, and Buff. That'a combine 47-28,even better at 64%. Next year's home opponents are 43-31 for 58%.

Oustide the division this year,Buffalo is the only non-winning team the Cards faced and they are 7-8.

First off you must have memory problems because this is the best the team has looked in years.

Second off, if the schedule is anywhere near to as hard as the Cardinals schedule was this year, I would be shocked.

Say what you will the Cardinals have played 9 out of there 16 games vs. playoff teams. They have played against 6 out of the 8 division winners this year as well. The played the entire NFC east, entire AFC east, plus the Panthers, and Vikings.

5-11 and 3-13 ? Sorry, I would be absolutely shocked.

This team is not going backwards.....but it has plateaued. This team is not going to grow in its current condition. Whiz is going to have to turn this team into a power running game, and improve the defense for this team to grow into a super bowl contender. I can see a step back next year to maybe 8-8 or 7-9. But lets not go crazy here.

I'll throw a fake bet of A$FN on that right now without blinking.

That one step is a rather big one. To develop a running game requires a RB and an offensive line. Hard to develop in one year. Nothing is impossible but a long shot at best.

Our opponents next year could be a lot better than they were this year though.

Last year our non divisional road opponents won only 52% of their games. Their winning % improved by 14% this year.

Last year our non divisional home opponents won only 49% of their games. Their winning % improved by 14% this year.

Guys, I'm just glad we're facing Seattle this week and not the 49'rs. Think about it, they are gonna be a real head ache for us next year.

i'm not worried about any team that has a passing game of Shaun Hill to Bryant Johnson and Isaac Bruce. I don't get why people are SF's jock all of a sudden. They beat the Rams 17-16 last week. They've played 3 playoff teams down the stretch and lost to all 3 in Arizona, Dallas, and Miami. they've won twice against St.Louis and one each aginst two imploding teams in Buffalo and the Jets. When they win a meaningful game, wake me up.

I don't get why people are Card's jock all of a sudden. They beat the Rams 3 weeks ago. They've played 3 playoff caliber teams down the stretch and lost to all 3 in Eagles, Vikings, and Patriots in blowout losses. they've won twice against St.Louis and one each aginst two imploding teams in Buffalo and Cowboys. When they win a meaningful game, wake me up.
Slightly modified... :D
