I like the new HC.

I remember him being quite successful when he had Plaxico Buress, and Hines Ward together as a tandem, and they almost mirror Larry Fitzgerald, and Anquan Boldin.

Furthermore, I cannot wait to see what he does with A.Boldin regarding gaget plays and what not.

You can bet he will utilize Edge James in the running game, and I could see this coach trying to retain Marcel Shipp as well. I think Shipp would benefit from playing in this power running game as well.

I like what this guy did with Big Ben and can only imagine the guy can do with the talent Leinart brings to the table.

The greatest thing I see is that this move will greatly improve our OL. This instantly makes Oliver Ross a much better player. Ross knows his offensive system, and was productive in it. This signing instantly gives us one more linemen which is something the team needs badly. On top of that this coach knows how to run the football in the NFL. I hope Looney buys into the system/knows how to teach the system because I like him as a coach, but if Wiesenhunt wants a new OL coach then we should get that coach ASAP and not spare the cost.

All good stuff. And that is just talking about the coach.

Rookies, Rookies, Rookies.

Don't look now but our draft class from this year is progressing very nicely.

Matt Leinart - Where to start ? The guy is going to be our QB for a long time. A year of thinking about nothing but football, and how to get better is going to do this guy wonders. I will end it there cause you could make a 14 page thread taking about this guy.

Duece Lutui - Arguably our best lineman last year. A year of NFL wieght training, plus agility training, plus overall experience will help Duece become a rock for us at Guard for a LOOOONG time.

Leonard Pope - Hmm, why is this exciting ? Well the guy is 6' 8" and looks like the jolly Red giant our on the field. Yet another with the right wieght training can only get better. Not only to mention our new coach will implement him into the offense more than our last coach did.

Gabe "Spongebob Squareback" Watson - The coolest thing about him is that he make the number 98 on his jersey look like a merit badged size patch on his jersery. If we can get this guy in the wieght room and build on his MASSIVE frame he will be not just good, he will be great!

I am ready for 2007!

PS - I personally want to see Pendergast stay and continue to use his schemes and personel.

Not to temper your enthusiasm, rugby, but Whisenhunt ever coordinated an offense featuring Plaxico Burress. Burress left the same offseason that Whisenhunt was promoted.

And, as I noted in another thread, the gadgetry of Ken Whisenhunt is vastly overrated and underdocumented.

He also never coached Oliver Ross.

There is a lot to be optimistic about for the 2007 season. 16 games starting Matt Leinart. Hopefully more like 19. Hopefully 16+ games starting the tandem of Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. 16 games of Adrian Wilson and (hopefully again) Karlos Dansby. The continuing maturation of our still-promising young cornerbacks in Antrel Rolle (hopefully healthy and wise after a healing and learning 2006 season) and Eric Green. The continuing rise of the re-signed Gerald Hayes.

There's a lot to hope for in the 2007 season, but all those hopes can be dashed as early as March 10 if Rod Graves fails to re-sign or Franchise Leonard Davis. Here's hoping that nidan, Skkorp, swd, and others are right about their guy and I'm wrong.

Lots of hope to go around.

I'm not too worried about gadget plays. They are nice and all, but their not what's going to win you ballgames. Re-sign Big, get a balanced offense, add some speed and go from there. I actually think all 3 things are going to happen.

I'm pretty sure Whisenhunt was at the helm for the 15-1 2004 right after Mularkey left for Buffalo. Ross and Plaxico were on that 2004 team.

 For the heck of it:

QB: Leinart

RB: Edge

FB: Yes, we will have to get a real FB for this offense. Where is Joel Mackovica when you need him J/K

TE: Pope

WR: Fitz, Boldin

T: Davis, Wells, Ross

G: Lutui, Brown

C: Leckey

DE:Berry, Okeafor

DT:Clancy, Dockett, Watson

LB: Dansby, Hayes

CB: Rolle, Green

S: Wilson, Fransisco

K: Rackers

P: ?

I hope Robert Griffith doesn't retire this year, and plays FS for us. He is old but he is the best we got right now. He did have some cool hits, and a few INT's as well.

But this is not a bad base to build on.

Peace

OC 2004 until 2006, according to AZCardinals.com. Burress played in 11 games that season, 35 receptions for almost 700 yards and 5 TDs. You're right; he was not re-signed because someone in the Steelers' organization thought that Burress was too much of a security blanket for their golden-boy quarterback, and so he went to the Giants.

Burress had a career high in YPC that season, when Roethlisberger figured out that you could throw the ball 40 yards down the sideline and just cross your fingers that Plax could outjump the other guy for the ball. Kind of like Eli does 25 times a game with the Giants.

And Ross was there, too. Ward that season (for anyone who cares) had 80 catches for 1000+ yards and 4 TDs. 7 rushes that season, as well, for 25 yards (the fewest carries he'd had in a season since 2000). Ward never threw a regular-season pass under Whisenhunt, and Randel El threw 7.

Thank you sir. Good edit points.

I too think we must franchise Davis. I think we are very hard on the guy. He has played well. But we NEED him at LT, and he wants to play guard, and that is frustrating. I think he needs to do what is best for the team. I say you make a deal with him. Do what ever it takes to bring in a T in the draft. If Davis can tutor the guy to start at LT then he can move to guard. I would say that is a good comprimise. Once again we need Leonard "Big" Davis at LT next season. Just one more season, and I promise I won't rag on on the guy the next whole season if he plays LT for us next year.

Hopefully Pope gets involved in the passing game more. I look at the impact that Shockey, Gonzalez, Heap and Gates have on opposing defenses and I think Pope can create the same types of mismatch problems

Ross was "allowed" to go by the Steelers. All will not be lost if "allow" him to go as well. I'm thinking he won't get any better with The Wiz here.

If Oliver Ross is starting at tackle, let alone being on the opening roster, the off season will have been a failure. He was over the hill when he left Pittsburgh. Not only is he injury-prone, but he can't run-block or pass-block when healthy. Other than that he's fine. SO if he's starting in 2007, it is good news for Seattle, St. Louis and San Francisco IMO.

Ross is under contract so you have to cut him, not quote..."allow him to go..."

I would like to see us resign Davis and extend Dansby early before camp. As far as Ross goes he has been on vacation now going on three years it's time to send this camper packing. I have high hopes for our young corners Dreen and Rolle, but saying that I still think we need a top FA to play corner and teach these kids. While they are learning I wouldn't mind to see Rolle play some saftey in camp!

I'm not overly excited, or upset, about this coach yet. In fact, it's easily the calmest I've been over a coaching change. I hated the Bugel, Ryan and McGinnis hires. I liked Tobin, but got the most excited over Green.

Way too much still has to happen.

I do like that this guy is HUMBLE and CONFIDENT. This struck me today during an interview on 1060. He flat out admitted that for the first interview, he "had not thought about Arizona enough, and wasn't prepared." Then, he said a lot of people talked to him about what a good situation this could be. When he got the call for the second interview, he was glad and got prepared properly. (So, my instincts on his first effort were right, but I think the Cards heard so many good things about him they gave him another shot even though he didn't have a good first interview.) The fact that he admitted this showed me A) It didn't bother him that he might look bad, not much ego. And B) When he sets a goal, he can get it done. At least he did on getting this job.

I don't know exactly how that will translate into his coaching, but I bet the players love him.

Clancy and his creative schemes seemed to be missing this last season... i saw a lot of passive defense... and during at least half of those games our defense didnt even seem to show up... I hope he's let go...

Agreed. Time for a fresh approach on D.
