I know that many ASU fans hate the U. of A. and want the Wildcats to lose every game, but what should such fans do this Saturday? Oregon plays Arizona in Tucson on Saturday. As an ASU graduate student and fan (I also previously attended the U. of A.), I am rooting for the Wildcats to defeat the Beavers, which would put the Sun Devils back in first place in the PAC-10 provided that they can defeat UCLA at the Rose Bowl.

Therefore, it would be in the best interests of ASU fans to root for the U. of A. this weekend.

What do avid Sun Devils fans think about this?

For the record, the game isn't this Saturday, it is next Thursday.

Just FYI.

Why stop there? Oregon Ducks - not Beavers. :D

My answer: ASU and whoever plays the UofA period.

Go Oregon !!

We just need to win out and hope Oregon loses against UCLA or Oregon St.

I think I'd rather have the Ducks lose to either UCLA or Oregon State, since one of those teams would probably then end up in a bowl. If Oregon loses to Arizona, it may make ASUs loss to Oregon look worse (that is, by making Oregon looking like a weaker team).

Really, right now Oregon should be heavily favored in the rest of their games, and I sort of hope they just win them all in blow out fashion*, and that they make the BCS title game, and that ASU wins out and goes to either the Rose or the Fiesta Bowl. That would mean a lot of money for the Pac 10 and losing to a BCS Title game team is a lot more palatable than losing to a team that was prone to dropping games.

*Of course I'd love Oregon to drop a game and for ASU to win the Pac 10 title, but I just don't see OU losing again.

Anyone see what Jake Locker did to the Arizona defense? Dennis Dixon is going to go absolutely freaking nuts. Arizona's going to have to score at least 38 points and get a couple of turnovers to have a chance to win. UCLA might have a shot against them, they're a different team at the Rose Bowl. I don't think the Beavs can go into Autzen and win this year. In other words, Oregon probably isn't going to lose but a smart ASU fan should cheer for any loss by the Ducks even against the Wildcats unless the you prefer the Holiday Bowl over the Rose Bowl.

I have been so busy at the drive thru window lately I didn't even think about like that. But since when does "smarts" enter into it, anyway?

I generally root for AZ teams, regardless. Like I mentioned elsewhere, the only time I REALLY root against UofA is the day after Thanksgiving.

Me too. I want both ASU and UA to improve so the rivalry means something important in bowl selection and PAC 10 title chase.

Oregon. I'd like the Ducks to win the championship and us to win the Rose Bowl. Two Pac-10 teams int he BCS bowls would be good. And I agree with HooverDam, Oregon losing to Arizona would make us and the Pac-10 look worse.

How? Just adds to the fact that the pac 10 is a good conference from top to bottom

From ASU's standpoint, it doesn't really matter who wins the Oregon-UA game. If the Devils win out, then they're going to the Rose Bowl. The USC game is HUGE. If they beat us, then they will move into second place in the Pac-10 and ASU will have to settle for the Holiday Bowl (providing Oregon doesn't also lose, in which case ASU would go to the Sun Bowl).

how is this so? If Oregon loses and ASU wins out, unbelievably, with the way shcedules look, that could put ASU into the National Title game. Yes - it COULD happen. #4 Kansas still has to play #6 Mizzou and then one of them still has to play #3 Oklahoma in the BIG 12 Title Game - if there's the right combo of wins/losses there, it could eliminate all the teams, especially since ASU is number 4 in the computers. OSU is going to the big house so that could be a loss for them as well and, hell, LSU still has to play in the SEC Title game, which is always tough.

This is really gonna set up for the wildest finish in BCS history - hell, there could be a 2 loss team playing in the title game when all is said and done.

^^This is true I suppose, albeit far fetched. I'll be happy just beating USC, that game scares me almost as much as the Oregon game did. And U of A is never a cakewalk. I'll focus on our two games first and worry about how the rest of the cards fall after that. I think the most reasonable scenario is the Rosebowl.

Cheesebeef, while I would love for ASU to get to the title game, it just really isn't plausible. If Oregon happens to lose, and LSU manages to choke off the SEC title game, ASU would then jump around both of them, as well as whichever team loses between Kansas and Missouri. This is where the problems arise. The winner of the Big 12 would then still be there, taking up one spot, but then unfortunately West Virginia is most likely the other team under this whole scenario. This is also providing OSU loses to Michigan next week, but if they do not, they are still ahead of ASU, and most likely remain there. The last problem is that is LSU does lose that title game, it would probably be to Georgia, who is right on the heels of ASU, and would also almost undoubtedly leapfrog ASU.

Really, the only chance of ASU somehow getting back into the big game is Oklahoma to lose, then win the Big 12 title, West Virginia to lose again, OSU lose to Michigan, and Tennessee winning the SEC title, along with all that nonsense I babbled above.

Given this season, I wont count it all out at all, just so much needing to happen.

Anyone else have a problem with Ohio State still being ranked ahead of ASU? They have a weaker schedule and a weaker loss.

Well if we beat USC, we'll be about 3 spots higher than Georgia before they beat LSU so I don't think they'd jump over us that far...

Bufalay, that's just how it goes in the BCS. They lost after we did. :-/

yes... its RIDICULOUS.... and I am a BIG Oregon fan on Thursday... Our best shot is if Oregon wins out and plays for the National Championship...

Yes I hate UofA... BUT I want to see the Pac-10 playing for a national Title... it will help the conference out for years to come.... Although ASU has a CHANCE to get to the title game its soo miniscule I don't even think about it.... Best case Scernio is we play Ohio St. in the Rose Bowl and beat their ASSES and finish the season as a top 5 team, and use that with Erickson so have a top 5 recruiting class....

I think Oregon will beat LSU... even though it will be a home game for LSU, I still think Oregon wins...

I think USC kills Kansas in the Holiday Bowl, and ASU beats Ohio ST. in the Rose...

Those are my hopes/predictions for the year....

nothing's far-fetched this season in college football.

ASU is already #4 in the computers - if they win out, beating USC, they'll rise enough in the rankings as well, certainly above a Georgia team with two losses and with the way college football has gone this year, NOTHING can be or should be ruled out. It's not like every team ahead of us doesn't have tough games left. The only one who seemingly DOESN'T is Oregon. Kansas, Mizzou and Oklahoma all have at least one tough game, LSU's got the SEC Title game, OSU's going to the Big House, West Virginia is West Virginia and they have to go to Cincy (who's tough for WV). In a year where no one is dominant, why as fans just settle for the Rose when the National Title, unbelievably so is still somewhat attainable.

Focus on USC. Right now, nothing else matters.

In the next few weeks, lots of top ten teams play big games. Pretenders will be exposed. BCS things usually work themselves out to the right outcomes, regardless of all the complaining.

If some team gets screwed this year, we can all enjoy arguing about it.

Go Devils.
