Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Orlando Hudson won his second Gold Glove on Friday, becoming just the sixth infielder in major league history to win a Gold Glove in each league.
Hudson, 29, won last year with Toronto.
Hudson is the second Diamondbacks player to win a Gold Glove. Outfielder Steve Finley (1999-2000) won two while with Arizona.
“I tell you what, it's a great feeling to win one Gold Glove in your career and now I have one in each league,” Hudson said after the awards were announced. “It's an honor. It's a great feeling to be one of only six players to win Gold Gloves in both leagues.”
Bret Boone is the only other second baseman to win a Gold Glove in each league. He won one with the Cincinnati Reds in 1998 and three more with Seattle from 2002-2004.
The other infielders with Gold Gloves in each league are first baseman J.T. Snow (one with the Angels and six with the Giants); shortstop Omar Vizquel (one with the Mariners, eight with the Indians and one with the Giants); and third baseman Robin Ventura and Matt Williams. Ventura won five with the White Sox and one with the Mets. Williams won three with the Giants and one with the Indians.
“I take a lot of pride in my defense,” Hudson said during a conference telephone call. “I owe a lot to (coach) Brian Butterfield. Every day he worked with me. Then I got traded to Arizona and all of a sudden now I'm with Jay Bell. He played with Brian Butterfield so he would keep telling me the same things Brian Butterfield was telling me and adding some things about his way so now I'm feeling more comfortable playing second
