Wouldn't it be nice to have the media say you are having an off year and you are still leading the league in home runs, RBI's, and 2nd in batting average. In Albert's "off year", he is on the verge of becoming the first National League player to win the triple crown since 1937.
'Reminds me of some people at work over the years who would say, "I better not do too much. Then they'll expect it all the time."
What they didn't recognize was that it's a recognition of greatness and they were too short sighted to see its ultimate rewards.
Media or not, Albert is enjoying its ultimate rewards. I hope he gets it.
It would also be a continued good example for the post-steroids era.
McGwire finally admitted it and is now back in good graces with St. Louis fans.
Sosa won't discuss it and is whimpering because the Cubs won't retire his number.
Both of them (and the others) should have their stats retired (removed).
But what do you do about the league and team officials who encouraged the record breaking stats and the whole Sosa-McGwire thing and looked the other way?
For starters, how about a new Commissioner?
