They will be called the Seattle Supersonics. I found these excerpts from the article interesting.

Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson said last week that he had received approval from NBA commissioner David Stern to present a counteroffer to the league from buyers who would keep the team in Sacramento. Johnson had said the city is in a "six-week sprint" to put together a proposal for the NBA's Board of Governors to consider over a potential sale and relocation to Seattle.

Given the league's desire to bring a halt to the long-running saga caused by the Kings' uncertain future in Sacramento, as well as Stern's well-chronicled hopes of seeing NBA basketball return to Seattle before his scheduled exit from the league office in February 2014, approval of the move by the NBA Relocation Committee is widely considered to be a formality.

The committee features several current NBA owners and is chaired by Clay Bennett, who controversially moved the original Sonics to Oklahoma City in 2008, but left behind the team's nickname and logo.

It's a done deal. This six-week sprint being put on by KJ and the "Keep 'Em In Sacramento" potential owners popping up arenothing more than a hail mary with seconds left. There's a chance it's caught, but not a good one.

Stern wants resolution to this lengthy battle with Sacramento and to silence the "We got screwed" Seattle crowd once and for all. Sadly for King fans, who were extremely loyal over the years, even throughout all the uncertainty, they become the afterthought.

Seattle is its state's most significant city. As is Portland. And as are the Bay area and L.A. Even San Diego couldn't hold on to its NBA franchise.

It is not a surprise that Sacramento (California's inland state capitol) cannot hold on to its team. Especially, as mentioned earlier, with Stern wanting to undo the wrong that was done to Seattle and the state of Washington. Even our former NBA point guard in the Mayor's chair can't change that.
