7 foot center just kicked off the University of Washington team for multiple failed drug tests, which is the same reason he was kicked off the Fresno State team before. The rumors now are pot, at Fresno State it was pot and possibly something else. With privacy rules I am not sure the NBA even gets all the test results, my guess is they probably do.
Upshaw was having a breakthrough year and had moved into first round discussion. 60% from the floor 8 rebounds a nation leading 4.4 Blocks per game in only 25 minutes. Always had an interesting story very talented kid from a poor family and a bad neighborhood. blew up in AAU ball going into his senior year and then virtually everyone dropped him at the same time, 2 reasons, they saw his transcripts, and they heard the drug rumors.
Just when you think he took advantage of his last chance from Romar and UW, he is gone again.
also side note, you gotta wonder how Lorenzo Romar still has a reputation for being a great guy and a players coach. A few years ago he has a player who both had drug issues and other legal problems, he suspended him for the conf tournament, reactivated him for the NCAA's, and then booted him off the team once the season was done, when it came out he was being investigated for pimping out a teenage girl!
Now he has a kid who failed multiple drug tests at his prior school, all the reports said UW was practicing zero tolerance, and now it comes out he failed multiple tests at UW too. Seems like when UW was unbeaten and nationally ranked Romar was willing to overlook it, but now they've lost 5 of their last 8 games and have 4 conference losses, suddenly rules are rules and off the team he goes.
