Exactly... Yet, taking a shot on Bell in 2013 for $5 million is a "sucky" contract - so say the Monday Morning 20/20 Hindsight all-star GM's! :D

Its not hindsight when you ripped the trade as it happened.

And Wilson's ERA last year? 0.66... with a solid 0 in 6 post season innings. Bell's ERA when Towers traded for him? 5.09.

Tell me more about hindsight.

The point is that the Dbacks can't pay a reliever $10 million and hope to still field a respectable team. You consistently miss this point. And - how many innings did Wilson pitch to earn that ERA??

He didnt pitch many, its true. But on the same note Bell had truely earned his ERA of over 5... and has a career ERA of 4.25 away from the pitcher's paradise of Petco.

And the Dbacks could afford to pay for proven talent if Towers didnt take so many "risks" on low reward, high risk players like Bell, Ross, Kubel, McCarthy, Cahill... you axe the waste from their contracts and all of the sudden pursing some legit players becomes more feasible.

It does not take a "wanna be GM" to realize that dropping 9 mil a year on 4th outfielders, 8 mil on a #4 pitcher who only throws about 100 innings per year and 5 mil on a 7th inning setup guy with an ERA over 5, makes for very poor financial planning no matter what sized budget your team has.

Yeah, it's tough being the GM, especially with all the Hindsight is 20-20ers. I look forward to critiquing you when you get the job. Actually, I hope you get the job and perform flawlessly. It looks so easy after the fact, even a caveman could do it.

Again... these moves are not hindsight. I am not ripping KT for any of the ACTUAL hindsight bad moves (like Montero's contract, which I dont blame him for). These moves were obviously bad at the time they were made. And blaming finances for the Dbacks struggles (as some here are keen to do) does not hold water when Towers real problem is spending huge portions of his payroll on really questionable players.

Again, you are better than him, what do you do for a living? And blaming our 90k budget over the Doyer's 250k does not hold water? Yeah, good luck with that. 82 is right, wannabe GMs. Let me know when you get the job. I'll be on your side, til you screw up.

lol, as elindholm stated perfectly on the Suns forum hours ago:

Also, the whole "armchair" rhetoric gets tiresome. You don't have to know how to do a job in order to recognize when someone else has made a mistake at it. A commuter train engineer zoned out and ran his train off the rails. Do I need to know how to run a train to be able to say that that was a mistake? A baseball hitter falls into the habit of swinging at every first pitch. Do I need to be a ballplayer to criticize that?

It does not take a great baseball mind to realize that many of Towers moves have been very very bad.

And yes, budget IS a factor, but my point was I dont want to hear people say its the reason that Towers is struggling. Towers' budgetary issues are largely of his own making. You sink a ton of your payroll in 4th outfielders, bottom rotation pitchers and a 7th inning reliever then I dont want to hear poor house excuses. Towers could find the money to sign actual legit talent if he didnt consistently botch these multi million dollar deals.

It cracks me up how some of you think Towers is basically above criticism. What has Towers done to earn this huge amount of trust from you guys? He has a bigger budget to work with than any Dbacks GM since the Colangelo years and the results Towers is getting out of his signings and trades have been absolutely dreadful.

Call it hindsight, call it foresight... I dont really care, but Towers has been horrible.

How 'bout this hot-shot.... How 'bout you take your shot, today, at compiling the 2014 version of the Arizona Dbacks. The team payroll was $90million last season. There are reports that KT has been approved to take that number up to $100million. So there ya have it. Take your shot Mr. GM.
I think you are the poster child of a second-guessing, highly biased fan who couldn't manage his way out of a paper bag... I think your hate for KT permeates your entire perspective of the team, and of the GM position on a team such as the Dbacks. I think your bias and hate for KT clouds your thinking so that logic and reason completely escape you...
Prove me wrong.... Take your shot.

As a bystander, I don't like to read posts such as this. I wish posters would discuss the merits of the team's moves rather than get personal with other posters:

"...a second-guessing, highly biased fan who couldn't manage his way out of a paper bag..."

This isn't about you. And it isn't about Phrazbit. Whether I agree with your or his posts or not, it is about D'backs fans reacting to the moves of the GM. Opinions! Discrediting him doesn't sway me as a bystander.

As they say, perception is reality. What a person believes may or may not be true. But it is true that he or she believes it.

I'm not trying to sway you... Nonetheless, you're right. I over-reached in that post.
I felt the need to remove myself from this conversation before I made that post, and didn't... I should've... My bad.

It would be nice to see someone actually mount a positive defense of KT... rather than just a litany of excuses or to belittle someone who has the gall to question these moves that have made little sense in the past or present.

I respect your response.

And, hey, we are trying to sway opinions with our own. 'Nothing wrong with that!

Time will tell whether KT is the GM we were hoping for or shoots from the hip. Or somewhere in between.

As much as I want to see a left-handed power bat to give protection to Goldy (there's a name we haven't heard in awhile :) ) I hope KT doesn't 'give away the farm' of young pitchers.
