Yeah right. Both of them are obvious slaps to the franchise.

But now they have Matt Schaub and Marion Williams.

I'm taking a wait and see approach. Average Mario along with the E-mail Scammer may prove to be a force--and Schaub--you just never know. It was a bold trade that may work out or not. I don't think Reggie or VY would have had nearly as much success in Houston as they did on their respective teams.

Ironically, EA Sports Madden franchise would be the Texans of NFL simulations if not for the exclusive rights preventing better games from being developed.

maybe 06 and 07 on next gen but the ps2 versions were awesome and madden has always been #1. There is no way it could be the Texans.

A Yugo would be a hell of a sports car by comparison if it was the only vehicle being made....

Madden has been arond for what, 14 years? and dominated for almost the whole stretch? I agree the licence is stupid but its also new, madden was king long before this happened. Calling them the texans of football gamems is just dumb

You are right. I'm dumb. I shouldn't let my high standards get in the way of enjoying the 14 year rehash ( w/ roster updates!) that is Madden.

It was competition from Sega's NFL 2K series (which many players thought was superior and at a significantly cheaper price) that necessitated EA getting an exclusive license. It's cheaper to block the competition with a license and produce an inferior product then to compete openly in the marketplace.

IMHO, EA got their ass handed to them by 2K5... A product that cost less then half of Madden and most critics argued was as good or better.

2K5 outsold Madden 05 and that very year EA signed an exclusive contract with the NFL.... go figure.

I dont like the things that have happened lately either and did always prefer madden to 2k5, I always felt 2k5 was more arcadish with the power up running and what not but either way, madden is the dominant force in football gaming and has always been even well before buying those rights. Thats like calling the 49ers franchise the texans when they actually have a history of changing the game. Games dont last that long if they dont sell and sell well, along with the madden tournaments and all the madden mania behind it id say it is far bigger and more popular than the 2k5 series.

You can like whatever you want but you cant say all of the maddens have been horrible football games, that you can say about the texans.

Granted much is up to personal preference. That said, IMHO madden development and innovation has been flat. I bought 06 for new uniforms and 07 for the new stadium. If not for that, I wouldn't have bought either. I have zero interest in 08.

The 2k series lagged behind Madden intially but they came into their own in 2004 (2k5) and supplanted Madden as the #1 selling football game triggering EA to seek an exclusive rights contract with the NFL. For the last three years EA has had absolutely no reason to innovate because there has been no competition.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Take 2 and 2K8 (due out this summer) which is Take 2's first NFL game since 2K5 and the EA license with the NFL.

If you don't think Madden is analogous to the Texans maybe the Raiders would be more accurate...

I'll buy both, but i can tell you right now that im going to play 2k8 way more! EA has given up crap since 2005. I'm fed up cause the bought the ESPN license, and you would think they would of intergrated it into madden, but did they??? NO..Instead we get Madden Cards!! GREAT!!

What's funny is that the Texans piked up Jared Zabransky of Boise State...He's on the cover of NCAA 08

what about hit sticks? QB vision cones? Superstar modes? Owner modes? I always thought they pushed the envelope well.

Also, ESPN sold more copies that year because it was $20. If it would have been $50 it wouldnt have touched madden. With that, if Madden went down to $20 it would break its own sales marks too.

next gen has been crap so far however I had given up on madden until 3 days ago I read a preview and it looks like they are pushing the envelope again now that 2k is back. tons of cool new features, old stuff is finally back (owner mode and etc..) I might actually buy it now.

PS yeah raiders is much more accurate, used to be the best, now just kinda floating along. I would put them with a much higher team tho, madden is HUGE for a reason.
