ESPN removes Curt Schilling from Little League World Series broadcast after offensive tweet

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/08/esp...-world-series-broadcast-after-offensive-tweet

ESPN removed Curt Schilling from its Little League World Series coverage after a controversial tweet from the retired baseball player compared Muslims to Nazis.

“It’s said only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists,” the graphic Schilling tweeted read. “In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How’d that go?”

Schilling also apologized individually to users on Twitter, tweeting to one user that it “didn’t come across in any way as intended or interpreted” and acknowledging to another that the fact was incredibly false.

Right.

ESPN removes Schilling from broadcasts for remainder of season

http://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/822452?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Curt Schilling has been pulled from ESPN's baseball broadcasts for the remainder of the season after authoring a controversial tweet in late August.

ESPN released the following statement regarding the decision:

At all times during the course of their engagement with us, our commentators are directly linked to ESPN and are the face of our brand. We are a sports media company. Curt's actions have not been consistent with his contractual obligations nor have they been professionally handled; they have obviously not reflected well on the company. As a result, he will not appear on ESPN through the remainder of the regular season and our Wild Card playoff game.

I don't necessarily think Schilling was in the wrong here. How long are we going to keep worrying about offending peaceful Muslims? Did we worry about offending Catholics when there was rampant pedophilia exposed within their ranks? Do we worry about offending Christians when we talk about the lunatics at the Westboro Baptist Church?

Schilling was right. But no ones ears are tough enough anymore to hear hard truths. Just comfy little lies.

I found it more stupid than offensive.

Yep, just plain ignorant and inaccurate. Present day Americans love comparing people to NAZIS to illustrate how badly they are suffering. I think they need to read a few books and realize that the systematic robbery, imprisonment, torture and attempted extinction of an entire culture and the war deaths of over 50 MILLION people (all caused by the NAZIS) was slightly more unpleasant than Obamacare, Immigration reform and Muslim sensitivities.

Besides Curt is an adult, and obviously it's in his contract to not be an idiot and say extreme things like this. He should know better. I have a photography business and thus, I dont post political opinions on ANY of my social media, because I'd rather not alienate 50% of my potential client base by bringing my personal politics into my business. Just as ESPN doesn't want their commentators getting political as they are NOT a political network, on the contrary, because it hurts THEIR business.

I dont know when Americans are going to get it. You have freedom of speech, but the constitution doesn't give you freedom from consequences from the stupid things you say.
