I thought that these stories (which I'm guessing all Suns fans knew about) would have prevented him from winning an election in the first place. They got plenty of coverage when he was in Phoenix. Maybe no one in Sacramento snooped around until now? The timing is puzzling.

I think it's because the victim, who took a large civil settlement and signed a confidentiality agreement (supposedly) years ago, has now decided to talk anyway.

I say supposedly because the agreement has not been produced yet-not that I doubt it's existence.

It's sobering for sure. 9 year old me idolized KJ, he was my favorite player by far and he seemed to be a model citizen. I grew up in Vancouver so it wasn't exactly front page news when it happened and didn't really find out about the sketchy dealings until much later.

I think 'reflexively defensive' accurately describes how I reacted as well but also an almost willful ignorance on the whole matter. I honestly still don't know what to think about it all and honestly a bit numb to it, but it's certainly altered my view of KJ.

We live in this world so full of information but not all of it dependable. It seems we are being asked to form opinions on issues where we have limited true knowledge.

There is nothing wrong with remaining agnostic on issues like this. There is no reason why you have to form an opinion in the least. I am not privy to what I believe is dependable info on this, and I do not really want to be. I will not condemn or defend KJ. Let someone else, whose responsibility it is, do so.

Now, if you live in Sacramento and have to vote, that is another matter.

So, you prefer the "bury your head in the sand" approach when it comes to repeated child molestation accusation/rumors? Yikes.

Personally, if a person didn't do it he should be screaming from the rooftops that he didn't do it. Having your attorney attack the alleged victim speaks to me of the way a guilty person would approach the accusations. And if there is truth to the monetary payoff(s)? Just another sign of guilt, IMHO.

This was very well known in Phoenix back then. His place on Camelback was like Neverland Ranch West with how many teenage kids lived there.

I went to college with a gal in 1999-2000 that claimed she was one of those teens that hung out with KJ back in day. Damn she had some disturbing tales. I have no idea the veracity of those stories but she was pretty convincing.

I agree. I don't care how much money I had, the accusation is so loathsome I would never just pay someone off if I were innocent. I'd fight it tooth and nail with everything I had.

It's impossible to know what to believe. I dont think that is burying your head in the sand to remain agnostic, I think these are events that took place 20 years ago that none of us were present for so how can we possibly know what to believe? There was no physical evidence and sometimes in life it's simply her word against his. That sucks, but it's reality.

KJ could be guilty. This girl could be lying. The truth? How the heck should I know? I wasn't there! The police investigated it and found zero evidence those are the only real FACTS that we know in this matter. I'm not going to defend KJ any more than I'm going to convict him based on a freaking deadspin article 20 years after the fact, lol.

I will say that I have a hard time believing that Phoenix police detectives would sweep this whole thing under the rug just because they are suns fans. I would buy that if he had a hooker or a bar fight, but child molestation? Ugh that makes me sick to think about. I like to think that our police have a little more morality than that. Lets hope so. Lets freaking hope so.

Here's Mandi Koba's full interview with the police (1hr video), with her first-hand descriptions:

Of course not, if I was any part of the problem or solution. But I am neither, even remotely in any way. "Burying your head in the sand" is an anology that does not fit remotely in this situation.

The alternative is becoming a "Nancy Grace" who constantly gets ignorantly indignant about everything and everybody even though she is extremely ignorant about most.

The truth will come out. I have no power to make it come out myself. When it does, I am not in any position to do anything about it.

I have enough to worry about with the things where I can actually make a difference. I am not going to worship Kevin Johnson. If he is found to be guilty, I hope he gets what he deserves.

He has been accused of sexual misconduct no fewer than four times. This is not all based on one girl from 1997.

Wow this article changed my view on him

I was 12 years old when the Suns made it to the NBA Finals. To this day KJ is my all time favorite player in the NBA. I still remember him waving to me at Barnes & Noble.

Of course. Until some legal action is taken I choose not to throw mud.

He's a rich athlete with rich lawyers and such. It wouldn't be surprising if he got away with it and that wouldn't make it untrue.

Do you also believe that Jameis Winston and OJ Simpson were innocent?
