OT: interesting twist on Rams PSL's

[Fiasco]

Some St. Louis PSL holders are laying claim to retain their seats in inglewood. The PSL contracts specify rights to all future home games but do not specify the city or stadium. PSL's are transferable and lifetime if you purchase season tickets every year.

I think it would be fitting for the Rams to have to buy the PSL's back at the new market cost or for current PSL holders be able to transfer/sell them to a LA resident

I would love it if they can stick it to the Rams on this issue. Only the verbiage can save them right now. it is a seat license, not a stadium & city license.

Are PSL's a one-time fee or an annual renewal? If it is a one-time fee, I could see this going to court.

One time. You have to own a PSL to buy ST's. If you fail to buy ST's the PSL defaults back to the Rams. PSL owners could sell/transfer their PSL's to a third party without input from the Rams.

I have not seen the contract but the news on it says it's between the Rams and PSL owner and doesn't specify anything other than a guarente to purchase ST's to all future Rams games

Apparently the Rams played a few games at Busch Stadium prior to moving into their facility. So the PSL's have already transferred from one venue to another.

Not true that has to be specified by contract. At MetLife there are both giant and jet PSL holders for the same seats.

Unless Kroenke is planning on selling PSL's again, why would he even care? Those seats would be paid for. Why does he care who sits in them? It's no different than a ticket broker buying them and selling them.

In the end, I doubt many St.Louis fans are going to shell out the money for season tickets in LA.

If I owned a valid psl I would buy the tickets just to resell them. Heck, my friend was trying to talk me into buying season tickets to the rams in la just for that reason. He argued that we could make some extra money and have guarentees seats for an away game once a year.

It is because Kroenke wants all PSL's to revert back to the Rams so he can sell them again. The Rams fans paid only $250-$4,500 for PSL's and the Rams can re-sell them for alot more then that.

Here is a PLS Website that kinds of gives you a look at what PSL cost. Look at SF to get a ballpark figure. Check the low to hi. Thats alot of money if you are on the 50 yard line.

The Rams would loose alot of revenue it they cannot re-sell those PSL's.

I think this is an unique situation because of the shared stadium issue. This also might be an agreement between the Jets and the Giants. The Rams don't share their stadium with anyone, however, if the Chargers agree to move in that might get even more interesting.

It's all speculation unless we can see the fine print. But if the contract doesn't have an out clause of some sort that governs this situation, it could be a very interesting class-action lawsuit. Personally, I think PSLs are a ridiculous cash grab in the first place, and if you charge for the right to buy tickets in perpetuity, then the purchaser should have the right to buy in perpetuity. A judge may see things similarly.

This is going to be one interesting lawsuit and most certainly there will be a lawsuit.

The way I see it is the PSL is a contract that allows the person holding the PSL the right to purchase tickets to the teams games for that seat. No one else can buy the ticket for that seat unless the holder of the PSL gives up that right. To me that means the PSL is an contract between the person and the team. The team keeps the money that is used to purchase the PSL which to me means the further lends credibility that the contract is between the team and the buyer. Since the original buyer can sell the PSL it would seem that the original buyer owns the right to that seat under an contract with the team.

If the contract doesn't mention a specific location for that PSL then it seems reasonable that no mater where the team is located the original buyer would still hold the rights to the seat. Now in order to retain the seat I imagine the owner of the PSL would have to purchase the tickets for that seat each and every season in order to maintain control of it. Not sure how many St Louis PSL holders would be willing to spend money on seats they would not use unless there is a monetary advantage which would be the team having to buy the PSL back from the owner at a price that exceeds the cost of a season ticket. Of course if enough of them did it, the team would be losing ancillary revenue by having a bunch of empty seats in the new location.

If a judge rules that the PSL is indeed a contract I don't see how the team can just cancel the contract without having to buy the PSLs back form the owners.
