Hello everyone...1st the good news. Our 2nd daughter was born yesterday (8-8-08) at 8:39am. Kelcie Renee Evans. Her fighting weight was 7lbs 3oz. She came in with a length of 20 inches. She's beautiful and I couldn't ask for more.

Now the not so good news...We knew their was a possibility of a heart defect with Kelcie since Delaney had her operation in June. Well our fears have been realized. Kelcie has a more severe defect with her heart. She was transported to our Children's Hospital in the afternoon and surgery will follow in the next 2 or 3 days. It's a pretty serious operation, but if it's successful, Kelcie should have a normal life.

I want to thank all of you for keeping my family in your thoughts and prayers this summer. If you can keep it going, we would appreciate it.

Take care all.

Ron

Congratulations and best of luck on her surgery. I have friends who had a daughter with something similar and it seems to always work out. Our thoughts are with you.

Congrats, she's beautifull. Delaney already showed herself to be a fighter, normally those traits seem to run in the family. Good luck to you all.

Update: 8-12-08 and a few more pics.

So, Kelcie had her surgery yesterday to repair her aeorta. Her coarctation was more severe than Delaney's and she had about 3/4" of her aeorta removed. This would be the equivalent of 3" in you and me. She's doing well and I will add a few more pictures from the last few days to this post. She was also diagnosed with a couple valve problems on the left side...She has a bicuspid atrial valve (this means it has two flaps instead of the normal three flaps) and an underdeveloped mitrial valve (it measures 8mm and normal would be 10mm). At this point they are giving adequate blood flow and nothing needs to be done to them. In the future, however, they may not grow at the same rate as her body and might require surgery to make sure she's getting enough blood on that side. We've been assured that even if they become inadequate that nothing sudden will happen...rather we will see signs over time, like easy fatigue or not growing during growth spurts. She will also undergo Echo's several times a year for monitoring.

Thanks again for keeping us in your prayers. I will update later as things progress.

Checkout the pics below. If you are squeamish, just skip them...one is of her after surgery and she hooked up to all kinds of machines. For me, it actually was as traumatic as I was expecting, but I can see how some would have a hard time viewing.

Take care,

Ron

Congrats and glad to hear that the surgery went well. I just had a daughter (she was five weeks old yesterday) so I know how proud you must be right now.
