The Cardinals has a need at FS and Bryd would be a good fit, but I'm not sure they are in the position to trade for him and then re-sign him. If they could get a deal done it might be a great buy low opportunity. Byrd will turn 27 this month and has been a playmaking, probowl safety. He has good range, good speed and is a pretty decent hitter. I know we have other needs, but it is not every day you get the opportunity to acquire a 27 year old, former pro bowl S.

I don't think this will work. He said he wants to be the top paid safety in football. Held out in preseason as long as he could until he signed his franchise tender.

I don't think we got rid of Rhodes, just to pay even more to this guy.

If the guy wasn't looking for crazy $$$ it might be a possibility, but he wants crazy money. Which also for him is even crazier.

So I guess now he wants 'top 5' money. So that's his 'coming down from up on high' salary position. Which was top money.

Here's a link to one of the articles describing his initial demand back during the summer.

Bills safety Jairus Byrd is the lone remaining player who hasn't signed his franchise tender. Don't bank on him inking it anytime soon either, and it sure doesn't sound like he'll be getting a long-term deal.

At least the one he reportedly wants. Adam Benigni of WGRZ in Buffalo reports that Byrd wants to be the "highest paid safety" in entire league and that, not surprisingly, Buffalo balked at those demands.

The cards have pressing needs at three of the four most expensive positions: QB, LT and pass rusher.

While safety could be better -- it's not terrible either. Save the money to fix one of the big three in the offseason.

Too expensive. The reason hes being shopped is he wants a big payday.

Also, Kerry Rhodes is just as good (if not better) than Byrd.

Its borderline criminal that KR isnt in the NFL right now

We will disagree on this.

If Denver is fed up with Von Miller we can talk about a trade. Other than that, no thanks, especially on an expensive safety.

EDIT - I really don't think Denver would trade Miller even if Keim offered all of his draftpicks.

A top safety contract runs between 5 and 6 mil. That is about a mil less than we pay Colledge. A top 26 year old (27 later this month) is something worth looking into. I believe it would come down to cost and I wouldn't offer up more than a 4th rounder, but it is definitely worth considering.

If they could get him for a fourth round pick you are absolutely right, and I’m buying. My response were based on my own guess of a first- or second round pick.

Actually, I may back track on this a bit. I was looking at some different numbers apparently and a "top S contract" could be up to 8 mil, more than likely around 7. I don't think I would commit to that amount long term for a S.

You know, Chopper, I’m actually not that worried with salaries and cap ramifications after the team hired Mike Disner. He might not always do what I would but he clearly know his stuff.

I think it’s obvious that the defense can get pressure on the opponents even though the lack a true pass rusher, but adding a young and very good safety would probably open up even more opportunities as coverage sacks could come more in to play.
Also, I really like Tyrann Mathieu and think he can be a stud, but in the first three games when Rashad Johnson was healthy Mathieu was used in some sort of hybrid-role. I think he was even better in that role than as a true safety. Byrd would obviously be an upgrade from Johnson and allow Mathieu to be moved to his previous role.
