Been several articles about it recently as the 49ers struggle on the field the stadium is becoming a major issue. Ticket sales and PSL's are way down, they fully expect several games this year might not sell out. The fans are completely disillusioned with the team but the stadium has become a huge issue.

Essentially the stadium was designed to be at Candlestick point to replace Candlestick Park, at some point Santa Clara won the battle but they never changed the design of the stadium. And they are now finding out first hand what a horrible decision that was NOT to change the design. I live a couple of miles from the stadium where I am there's almost always wind, but where the stadium is there's less wind, closer to hills, some buildings that block wind etc. It's often 15 degrees cooler in SF than it is in Santa Clara, and it was always windy at the Stick because of the surroundings. The combination has 49er fans complaining of the heat. I know Cards fans who went to SDS for years probably laugh at it but out here it's become a huge deal. soccer games are starting later, essentially any event they have there has to be started later because of the sun. The Stadium was built to give people views of the surrounding area, and as a result there is almost zero shade in the stadium so when it's 90 degrees the fans are just baking in the sun

The Dolphins are modifying their stadium to add shade and 49er fans are bombarding the team with tweets and emails and phone calls demanding they do the same thing or they won't attend games. it started out with all the concerns about parking and getting to the games, thats' actually working out, but people hate actually sitting in the seats at the game because it gets so hot.

I'm selling my house and right now apparently being close to the stadium is still considered good for value, but I expect that's going to change if they don't do something about stadium problems

look at the bright side. They will only have to live with it for 20 more years or so........

Yep I guess the argument is you guys are used to it 49er fans aren't. After years of blankets and jackets at the Stick they're baking.

I think it's funny one article I read people were saying the problem is techies don't care about football they should not have moved to Silicon Valley. The surveys they did and the ticket fanbase data apparently told them there were more fans that lived closer to Santa Clara, than SF so if they moved the stadium it would be closer to the fan base. That is theproblem is not techies, it's the team sucks now, and the stadium wasn't designed to be where it ended up and frankly they need some shade.

Even some tv and news guys are openly saying it's pretty clear they need to modify the stadium some how because of the sun problems. I know it sounds crazy we rarely get 100 degree days here and not during football season but it's actually a very real issue with the 49er fanbase.

I am sure that even if the 49ers make no changes to the stadium, they will still get more people at their stadium then the amounts that were showing up at SDS from 1990-2005. Does anyone know what the numbers were for average fans at Sun Devil Stadium for a September Cardinals home game? I remember in 2005 buying scalped tickets in the second level and then just walking down to the 3rd-4th row of the North Endzone with no problem. I think i did that for the whole season.

I think it is the humidity that makes it hotter than the temperature. Isn't is usually 50% or more there?

It's 52% right now but I don't think humidity is normally a huge deal here. It's hotter than the old stadium by a good 15 degrees most days, no wind, and literally no shade by design. People here just aren't used to it. If the team were winning the complaints would be less I'm sure, but when the team sucks people sit there and wonder why am I sitting in this heat paying all this money for a crappy team.

It's kind of amusing to me but will probably result in them having to do something that will cost money so ultimately will hurt people who live around here.

That's why onl 20,000 of us went.

I think of that 20 years,...baking,..watching the team suck ass, and always being outnumbered by opposing fans....

then I consider no longer being there, and remember my last season in AZ when I had my tickets at UOP.....

then the past few years, sitting in my lazyboy recliner, watching the redbirds kick ass all over the NFL in my air conditioned living room, on my 60" Plasma screen...
I still miss that single season I had at UOP,... but all in all,...right now is the greatest time I can ever remember when it comes to being a Cardinals fan...even being 1200 miles away.

I did t realize that they never changed the design after the location switched. That probably explains why it sucks up all th sound and makes game day so lifeless too.

If they didn't change the design when moving the site they probably never even considered the environment. Pathetic!

Winning fixes everything. If the team had a clue from a roster/coach standpoint, no one would care. It's nice weather in a nice area with a nice open-air stadium. You know what stadium sucks? That one down in Tampa. I went to the Cards/Bucs game in 2013, in September, and I fried like it was SDS all over again.

Yep, they are going to have issues for a long time. That team is in a spiral which will make everything else worse including the stadium. Unless they start winning this will be bad for awhile and I , for one, don't care lol

In a world that does not lack money, or "yes" men, it sure does lack leaders.

How in the world do you spend that much money and screw it up that bad? It has cost them their head coach, players, and now fans.

I guess some team has to fill the void the Cardinals left behind.

It's kind of funny, it shows you how bad that team is run. It shows why the team tanked. The people making decisions up top, suck at it. They don't know how to run a franchise. Not on the field, nor off it.

When you think that a team that just imploded also made these decisions about its stadium, both totally fit together.

It seems to me that the 49ers problem starts with ownership. They might get lucky from time to time, but until Jed York figures it out or sells the team, they are not going to be competitive very often.

People with power sometimes aren't up to the job. When these people wield their power, this is what happens. That's why you don't want inept people to lead you. 49ers leadership reeks of being inept.

That's why IMO they went all in on Chip Kelly they figure it's going to take years to get them back on track unless they hit lightning in a bottle so they're hoping Kelly can do it. What's interesting is I think much of that was them hoping Kelly would resurrect CK's career and right now it's not even clear he intends to start him over Gabbert.

The stadium is a high tech marvel, but it's from everyone I've talked to(I haven't seen a game there) a terrible place to watch a game. I did the tour and it's very impressive but I can certainly see if it's 90 degrees outside you literally can't go anywhere to get shade there is none. It's completely "open concept".

Essentially every estimate they did on costs for that stadium had the same assumption, games would be fully sold out for years, so if they are already predicting some non sellouts this year it's going to change the finances. Which probably explains why they are doing so many other things there, concerts, soccer matches, dirtbike stuff etc. I don't know if that was the original plan or not but I think they realized they needed to fully utilize the place to make money.

We have a weird history like this with stadiums around here. The house I grew up in was in Cupertino, after they built the Shoreline Amphiteater in Mountain View they had this crazy acoustics thing going on for years where under certain conditions I could sit in my courtyard at home and hear the concert, I liked it but lots of people hated it, was too loud. They did all sorts of modifications trying to figure out what the cause was and how to stop it. They were real careful about that with Levis stadium and as someone else said it's sort of the exact opposite, the sound is dead there.

That exactly resembles the ribbed design of those metal benches.

Boo hoo. Poor silicon valley types having to deal with a bit of adversity. I'll bet half those complaint emails were about the Grey Poupon being too warm.

Most of the early complaints were traffic, getting in and out of parking lots and the amazingly high cost of food and drinks there.

one of the letters I read the other day the guy said something like "now it all makes sense. There's no shade and it's hot in Santa clara so we need to drink and then you charge 10 bucks for a beer or 5 bucks for water." They actually lowered those prices the first year it was 10.25 and 5.75 but all the complaints about heat led them to lower it to a round number so they wouldn't have to give change and the lines would move quicker.

I know it sounds like whining but they also petitioned the NFL to have less daytime games before November and other things to counter the heat.

I have seen a bunch of stuff from people who have worked at the stadium apparently those jobs are a nightmare, long hours low pay very few breaks etc. They're having trouble keeping those jobs filled.

It's allegedly a very "green" stadium but they didn't make enough allowance for the difference in weather.
