OT: Rams trade Ogletree to Giants

Can't pay everybody what they are worth. Not sure if the Rams have signed Aaron Donald to a long-term deal yet? Anyone know? Might be trying to get that deal done since costs are only going to up the longer the Rams wait.

Wade's scheme doesn't require top end players at ILB. They would rather get another edge rusher, pay a CB, and re-sign Aaron Donald. Same with Robert Quinn. Wasn't a perfect edge rush fit, and so the Rams shipped him out. Smart moves.

Rams and Seachicks may see this as the right time in our Division to retool (although it looks like a rebuild with the Seachicks). Hence the moves and saying goodbye with some longtime guys on their rosters.

Cards have new coaching staff and will be putting in all new O and D as well as install a new QB. SF is making some moves but are still in the middle of their own rebuild and there will be growing pains with JG.

If I where the Rams, I would not tinker with the offense too much though. McVay did a masterful job with scheming for Goff but as the season wore down they where not the juggernaut as their onset. Teams had the space to watch tape and now they have a whole off season to study. Going from nothing to something like the Rams I think requires some caution to see what has longevity. Their status quo right now is great... see what you can sustain for another season and realize what you really have or not

Clearing cap to lock up Donald, get Joyner who was franchise tagged and (possibly)Trumaine Johnson inked long term as well as pending UFA.
Ogletree is better suited outside in a 4-3(Giants). Quinn was a 4-3 DE(Dolphins).

Rams are just constructing a true 3-4 defense as opposed to last years smoke and mirrors job....which wasn't all that bad tbh.

A completely re-tooled LB core with Mark Barron i'm thinking. A run stuffing true NT will also be addressed to help Donald and Brockers up front.

The back end looks much improved if T.Johnson re-signs and is the #2 CB opposite M.Peters.

They have given up two of their 4 highest salaries, and for fringe defensive players who aren't great scheme fits. They are cleaning up the franchise to fit Donald's big number. IT is better than waiting for those players to be worthless, and then the only thing you get by cutting them is dead money. (ie Bucannon, Veldheer, Iupati, Mathieu, ect.)

This must be a joke or you're just piling on the Cards for some hidden agenda. IMO only one of those player fall into that category. Buc has no dead cap hit, Veldheer has a so-so dead cap but has earn his contract, and HB was just a bad contract from the start they didn't wait too long on him it was over when it was signed.

You stated that it better than waiting for players to become useless, I only see one of them, I didn't mean Buc, I meant Iupati. You also stated, ands very astutely I might add they were trading players that did not fit their scheme, I don't think you are trying to say that any of the 4 players you named don't fit ours? JV has been a good signing for us IMO, I don't see him as a player we could afford to trade at any point in time. DB, well you answered that one yourself. HB who is going to trade for that contract? The cards didn't wait until HB was worthless it was that way when he signed it.

Oh and by the way Ogletree had a 10 million dollar dead cap hit for the rams this year.... Just sayin
