I totally agree. I was at the bar and the sound was off on the game so I never heard the explanation but I'm sorry, empty hand coming forward = fumble.

not one, but two blown calls that led to 14 pts I thought. I can't see how that is allowed to go on in today's NFL. I did pick Denver to win....but they didn't deserve to. that was terrible. I'm really starting to hate NFL officiating/policies.:bang:

Honestly, I'm kind of wondering why they bother with replay. I've seen them fail to reverse clearly wrong calls a handful of times this year, against only one time of actually reversing an incorrect call.

SD got totally ripped off. It was a fumble clear and simple. The ref said something about the whistle had blown. How can you say that when the ball was still in play?

Horrible call.

While I understand the outcome, it sucks. Refs need to do a better job of swallowing the whistle in cases like that.

Also, I. Hate. The. Broncos.

They said as much, but the the ref blew the whistle thinking it was a pass. So, the ball is awarded to the last team that had possession: the donkeys.

yeah I can understand when a ref blows the whistle early and the ball is stripped afterward. but cutler fumbled....the ref waited....and then called it incomplete. that shouldn't happen. I thought that we've seen several plays were a QB is called for an incomplete pass when a fumble actually occurred? why did they even do a booth review?

i hate to see officiating (or lack thereof) change the outcome of a game, and this is a prime example. Clearly san diego would have recovered the ball, and clearly denver should have lost that game. Just terrible on the part of the officials

The NFL has announced they'll review this rule after the season and consider changing it to allow for replay on such a call even if the whistle had blown. THe idea is if the whistle blows the play is dead to protect players, what if they don't blow the whistle and someone nails Cutler and he's out for the year is the idea. But in this case nobody stopped, Cutler chased the ball until the Charger had it. The ref admits he blew the call whistling it dead, so presumably the changed rule would allow them to go back and give the ball to SD. I'm sure that doesn't make Norv Turner any happier but at least they apparently will change that rule.

Also, on tv the announcers were speculating that Shanahan went for 2 because he knew it was a bad call and figured the fair thing was to give the Chargers a chance to win the game in regulation by stopping them. Made for a good tv theory but not true, Cutler has said that when they took the field for the last drive Shanahan had already decided we're going to score and go for 2, so they made that decision before the bad call even happened.

What a ridiculous theory. If Shananhan wanted to be fair he would fumbled the ball back on the next play. They went for two because the Denver defense could not stop the Chargers in OT.

Yeah he said after the game he didn't want the outcome to come down to the coinflip. That's essentially what you said, we can't stop them, they can't stop us so whoever wins the coinflip wins.

Amazing how things go, if they get that call right everyone is calling Cutler a choker right now because of teh pick to Cason and the fumble, but instead he's a hero for the TD pass and the conversion pass.

I continue to marvel at his arm.

Yeah Russ Cutler LUCKED OUT! They should have lost that game and they all know it, the Chargers must be furious. Its so sad that the refs even with replay can't get a call like that, that essentionally decided the game, right.

Better to be lucky than good sometimes and let's face it how many young players have the intestinal fortitude to make 2 mistakes of that magnitude and then make the game winning play like he did?

Just his ability to bounce back from that has to impress you.

He's is impressive and has a great arm, its just ashamed that in Denver you always have to live up to unrealistic standards they have. Hope he stays and plays well for awhile, I mean Jake had a crazy winning percentage there but they will turn on you in a second there, its the ultimate what have you done for me lately fan base.

I'm guessing if Cutler resists the urge to flip off the Denver crowd the fans will probably like him.

That was indeed rough if you were a Charger fan... My wife was saying, "that is the kind of ending I was used to seeing at a Cardinal game"...

I took the knife out of my back and continued watching...

19 points in the first half of the 4 playoff games

Yeah they didn't exactly get any easy playoff games did they? In Indy twice? Steelers? Patriots? Not sure they would ever have been favored in those games. They lost to champions with far superior talent. Whatever the point was anyone has to live up to Elway is going to fail unless they win championships that town is brutal on players.
