Barring any trades, when Atlanta makes the 103rd overall selection, it will be their seventh pick. They have 4 picks before selection 50 occurs. The Cards seventh pick is number 225.

Kffl is reporting that the Saints are wanting to trade up. If the winds blow right, Atlanta's first day selections could grow.

Why can't this happen to the Cards?

Round 1, Pick 3 (3)
Round 2, Pick 3 (34) (From Raiders)
Round 2, Pick 6 (37)
Round 2, Pick 17 (48) (From Texans)
Round 3, Pick 5 (68)
Round 3, Pick 35 (98) (Compensatory selection)
Round 4, Pick 4 (103)
Round 5, Pick 3 (138)
Round 6, Pick 6 (172)
Round 7, Pick 5 (212)
Round 7, Pick 25 (232) (From Steelers

They are well positioned

but they got those picks by being really bad and creating holes

they tradied Matt Schaub to Houston and DeAngelo Hall to Oakland.

You think they would give a 2nd round pick for Matt Schaub right now?

Many would say that's hindsight, but I agree with you. Even before M. Vick's dog-killing career became known, I thought Schaub was the much better QB.

Co-sign. I don't want to lose and get rid of our good players to be in their position.

Schaub didn't do anything in Houston last season. Considering what they got for Schaub, I think that even given Michael Vick they're pretty happy with the deal they made.

DeAngelo Hall was not happy in Atlanta, and so they let him leave. They got a very good pick in return, especially when you consider future cap savings.

They have to almost completely turn over their roster, but they have a good mix of veteran leaders to help them along. I don't think they'll be competitive this year, but I think they could be a team that no one wants to play come December.

The Falcons might be a better team than may think. It took OT for the Cards to beat them at home last year. They outscored Seattle with Chris Redman as their quarterback.

I don't think last season was a bad one. Not successful by any means, but it's a wash in Schaub's first year in the system AND a major injury.

Once again, the Texans struggled to protect their QB and didn't really rush the ball like Kubiak wanted (Ron Dayne was their leading rusher, which is funny, until I noticed he had a better average than Edge). I hear Alex Gibbs has been brought in to be a consultant.

Atlanta may not feel as bad about Chris Redman as most people think (I admit, I'm pulling for him) but I'm sure they'd have taken Schaub over the twin engine of destruction that was Leftwich/Harrington (where are all the people who were clamoring for the Cards to draft him?).

Camshaft, it can't happen to us because we don't have Michael Vick. He destroyed that franchise and might have ended up saving it by forcing the meddling owner to hire real football people.

Those people dumped all the old and are doing a complete rebuild.

We already had a thread on this a while back. The Pats' personnel guy was hired by Atlanta and is doing a make-over.

Let's see.

Trade Leinart for a #2 next year.
Trade Wilson for a #1 next year.
Trade Dansby for a # 1 next year.
Oh , and let's trade Q to the Eagles for their #1 next year and Lito Sheppard, after all we don't want to totally deplete the team.

Since doing all that would assure us of a top 3 pick we would have 5 picks in the top 40 or so. Of course, 3 of our #1 picks wouldn't sign until October, but hey, we would be in great position come draft day 2009.

No. I don't want to be in Atlanta's position, although I will commend them for getting themselves in this position after what has turn out to be a disasterous year.
