I know it’s off topic but I had to mention this. For those of us in Southern California can you believe these fires. They’ve completely engulfed the city. I’ve never seen anything like it. The sky is completely black across the entire city and ash is falling. This is freaky as hell. 1100 homes already burned down between Los Angeles and San Diego. I work near the Van Nuys Airport in North Hills and they’ve been sending wave after wave of helicopters and water tanker planes all day long. Just insane. And it’s only 5% contained thus far. I’ve seen some fires before but this is something else. Come on Phoenix, send some firefighters over here. How is everyone else here in SoCal coping with this?

That's good to hear. Because less than 2 hours ago it was 5%. Looking at the sky it appears things have gotten worse since then. Surreal is the word.

From an article on CNN...

More than 8,000 firefighters were trying to contain at least 10 fires in the region early Monday. But Dallas Jones, director of the Governor's Office for Emergency Services, said most of the fires were less than 20 percent contained, and some weren't contained at all.

There is also reports that a lot of the fires were intentionally started.

I wonder if this could be considered an act of terrorism?

My parents were stuck in LAX for over 10 hours last night. All the flights were grounded. They finally got in a 3am, when they were supposed to be home at 4pm the day before.

Related to this, Monday night football got moved to ASU because of the fires. Also, it is free admission.

The parking lot is already trashed. At 9am when I got to school, there were people sitting on a couch in the back of a truck with a keg.

I cannot believe they gave free admission to a football game at one of the biggest party universities in the country. I just don't see how that was a good idea.......

crazy is right. i was driving back from phx yesterday and was confronted with part of the fires streaming down a mountain where the 10 hits the 60. everything in my house, all the way down in newport beach, is covered in ash ('cuz the windows were open - doh!). the smell is overpowering all day and there's no sun at all.

there are rumors of two white boys that were riding around in a white van throwing out incendiaries to ignite a bunch of the fires that grew into the san bernadino fire.

the sd fires are just outrageous. i have a ton of friends who have been evacuated. i'm supposed to have a date with a girl down there, but she was evacuated last night and i just don't think it's the proper time, what do you all think?
