Cbus, this is mainly for you, but it is also a sad commentary on student athlete priorities when choosing a college. The #1 college recruit in the country, a big, athletic QB fro Jeanette, PA, narrowed it down to three schools: Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. He felt all three gave him the chance to start, the chance to be at a great football program, and the chance to make it to the NFL. His parents strongly urged him to go to Penn State; it would be closer, and it would do his parents proud. That's great, but that doesn't need to be a deciding factor. In fact, under normal circumstances, the fact that the kid chose Ohio State would not bother me much. The fact is, he didn't choose Ohio State because it was a better football or scholastic situation. Penn State wasn't enough of a party area for him. It was too 'in the middle of nowhere'. Oh, poor little baby.

Guess what? I hope the kid gets arrested for underage drinking and never sees the football field. I won't wish the kid injury (I only reserve that curse for Barry Bonds), but I hope he fails miserably, then has to take a job in the middle of nowhere. The kid's maturity level, if he has one, has been exposed. I hope you fail, Terrelle, and fail miserably.

At 18 years old and I new the football programs and scholastic issues were all pretty much equal. I'm pretty sure I would choose an area that provided extra-curricular activities.

Actually he picked Ohio State University, not to be confused with Ohio State or "the" Ohio State University. Sort of like when Stephon Marbury announced for Georgia Tech, I forget what he said but he had the name of the school wrong too.

In actuality, he won't be in an area that will really provide more extra-cirricular activities. State College has just about as much as a partying college kid needs. Now, if he has time to go to classes, play football, party until he can't move drunk, doink women, AND THEN wants to leave the area to try and spend the rest of the time he won't have, THEN he'd have more to do. Basically, he has a misconception about the area, and he went to a big-time rival for it. Everyone else can give him a pass, but I never will. Like I said, I won't root for injury, but I hope his own immaturity ruins his career.

Wow. Harsh.

His maturity level is that of an 18 year old.

At least he opted for the best team in the Big Ten instead of opting for 3-4 losses every year with Penn State:D

At least we know we aren't going to win the championship earlier. Ohio State knows it, but never wants to admit it. How many championship losses do they have recently?

Your right man, the reason all the "experts" say the Big Ten can't win championships anymore is because they don't get the incredible athlete recruits (like Pryor). Better to have this guy in the Big Ten then down south.

Yup. I understand the feelings of a jilted fan, but he's a young man growing up in an era where each generation seems more stupid (stupider!) than the one before it.

I've been told Hate leads to the Dark Side. Word on the street is that the Dark Side is whack, yo.

Well, it was a dumb statement by me (eliminated earlier), done a bit tongue-in-cheek. But no, I absolutely would not want this kid in the Big 10. Sure, maybe at the end of the year, IF a Michigan or Ohio State has a shot, I want us to beat another conference's school. I'm not willing to concede the season, though, and I don't want this hoser playing against me.

The Dark Side is the bomb, yo...can't you tell that JoePa is the Emperor...he never died!

Look, kids probably base these decisions on stupid criteria all the time. I'm going off on the kid because he has the stupidity and temerity to admit it outright, and then want another chance. Uh, you say we're not cool enough and THEN want another chance? I hope you never see the field, ******* ;)

I hope this kid becomes the best football player ever to take the field...just so I can see steam come out of Stout's ears.

In the story I saw, the quote was that he thought OSU would give him the best chance of going to the NFL. I also saw the "middle of nowhere" comment. But he's right, Penn State IS in the middle of nowhere (I grew up in Harrisburg, so I feel somewhat qualified to say that.)

I did not read anything into that quote that necessarily implied partying. Do you have a specific quote that shows otherwise? Beacause, let's face it, if a college kid wants to party they can do it anywhere. I've been to a few tailgates at PSU games or Blue-White games and I think it's safe to say that Penn State could compete with his other choices as far as partying. And some of the recent off-field trouble with PSU football players (some justified, some not) would probably be enough evidence that he could still do his thing if that's what he's all about.

If your mad that he didn't choose your school, fine. But unless you've got some other information, I think your reaction was a little over the top and a little harsh.

Actually, if he wanted that, he should have gone to Michigan, so he could compete to start right away. And you have made my point for me; he CAN party large at any of the big schools, so this shouldn't have made any difference. Like I said, what does he really need to do out of town? I mean, Penn State's off-campus life is just as good, unless he is trying to raise his cultural level, which I doubt. I'll take it all back if he really liked Ohio State because Columbus had more museums, or better fine dining options. Otherwise, it's a moot point. Ergo, he made a decision based on faulty thought process.

And my reaction is way over the top and totally harsh. And I won't change it :D

Stout, I thought your point was this:

The fact is, he didn't choose Ohio State because it was a better football or scholastic situation. Penn State wasn't enough of a party area for him. It was too 'in the middle of nowhere'. Oh, poor little baby.

If I made the point that he can party anywhere, that is just the opposite of what you said there. I have no more idea what is in this kid's head than you do. I just think it's a big leap to say that because he says Penn State is in the middle of nowhere that he is thinking only of partying. I don't think he's got Columbus Chamber of Commerce brochures in his backpack and Columbus isn't exactly a metropolis either. But, the kid's living in the middle of nowhere now. Maybe he wants to expand a little.

According to his high school football coach, if Tom Bradley was the coach, he would have chosen Penn State. Maybe he didn't want to say JoePa is old as dirt and I'm afraid he'll try to turn me into a linebacker, so he was just being nice by saying it was in the middle of nowhere.

It looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. He is 18 years old for god sakes.

Well if his press conference indicated at all his intelligence level I'd say stout will get his wish. If not 'clubbing', which is more of probably what he wants that Penn State probably doesn't have, then it might very well be academics. Basket weaving classes?

This guy could have been that kid who chose between Cal and the Oregon. I mean after all he announced he was going to 'The University of Ohio State'

Don't know where that is, but they got a lot of work ahead of them. :D

Also caught pti yesterday, and they brought up a good point....Michigan seems to be a school better at churning out QB's as compared to Ohio State.

Even if a couple of them are Hensen and Navarre, hey they at least made it on nfl rosters. Also who can argue with Tom Brady and what he has done?

Maybe in the end the kid chose right, but from here it doesn't look like the kid made his choice for the right reasons and imho that will increase his chances to fail.
