Why would a dude be released near mid-season?

Because he was good? (Because he was even average)?

Are the Texans that good that the guy was considered expendable?

Unless there are really extenuating circumstances, I'd be inclined to pass.

How could you pass?!?! Is he better than the ghost of John Abraham and the 5th string OLB on the other side?

Brooks Reed and Whitney Mercilus are pretty good.

Easy. You just pass.

BTW - some of us don't share your low opinion of Abraham. Also - BA and TB evidently felt good enough about the OLB position to make Moch inactive last Thursday.

You mean the same Abraham who has 2 sacks this season, that were against a rookie RT last week?

What are you basing your opinion of him on, his sacks against the Cardinals and Raiders last year?

Ya, no reason to take a chance on a guy. Nonewhatsoever.

And how did making Moch inactive work out?

How did letting Schofield go work out? At least he got on the field Thursday.

ARGH!!

Montgomery must have some major issues to be dropped like a dogturd in Midseason.

Wow wonder what the deal is. If your the cardinals you have to try and bring him in especially with your LSU connections maybe he needs someone to take him under his wing perfect role for Abraham and Peterson

The Texans waived defensive end Sam Montgomery, linebacker Willie Jefferson, and running back Cierre Wood on Monday. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the three players violated team rules at the squad's hotel in Kansas City.

Interesting.

Doubt Jax takes him. I remember being told he was one strange dude and one of the worst combine interviews ever. A real whack job, iirc.

I remember at one point, him being a guy I was touting as the Cards potential first rounder.

Smoking cigars? Are you kidding me. Not blunts but just regular cigars.

Kid has talent no doubt maybe just needs some direction.
Wow, wouldn't want anyone like that on your team.

I think its an attempt by the Texans to establish some order. There season has been a huge disappointment overall.

The team clearly didn't believe them, Jefferson was kicked out of his first school for testing positive for pot multiple times. So fairly likely the team didn't believe him saying it was just a cigar and thought the cigar smoke was covering another smell.

Ironically the time to do that may have been when one of their defensive stars got himself suspended for PED's a couple of years back but they welcomed him back with open arms.

Amazing how team rules don't apply to the good players.
