Hey guys, thanks for the kind words you sent me. It really helps me get through the stress of my daughter's situation. What makes the stress worse, is that my wife is 8 months pregnant with our second daughter, so I'm the one who has to keep the emotions in check...it's rough.

We met with the surgeon today, to go over the entire process. What she has is called a coarctation (sp?) of the aorta(http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/uvahealth/peds_cardiac/ca.cfm). Basically, it's a blockage, due to overgrowth, of her left aorta and it causes high blood pressure in her upper body...it also causes the walls of her ventricles to thicken, due to working harder to pump blood out. Her surgery is now scheduled for the 26th of this month. It should last about 3 hours and she will be in ICU for about 4-5 days, then hopefully released to go home.

I'm sure over the next two weeks I will be a total nutcase!

I have a 20 month old and a 3 year old, so I definately feel your stress level from that perspective. To have this added curve ball thrown at you is just a burden no family should have to go through.

I'll be pulling for a complete recovery and I hope your new bundle of joy brings your family happiness!!!

Good luck man

I fervently wish for good results for you and your daughter and wife. Have strength. In these kinds of crises, the afflicted child often bears the pressure better than the parents, who often feel utterly helpless.

You know all of us are with you.

My thoughts are with your family. I hope you picked the best medical help you could find. What hospital is the operation taking place. I hope it is a teaching hospital for your child's sake. They are ALWAYS the best staffed and have the best equipment. G-d be with your family.

full, quick recovery. thoughts and energy the way of your daughter and your family as a whole.

keep it together for everyone else, but find some time to find some seclusion and beat the hell outta something stuffed and yell your lungs out. will help you to continue to keep it together the rest of the time.

it's OK to be a nutcase every now and again - definitely hard walking that line of being strong and being human

making sense of the wheres & whys of a situation isn't my forte - sometimes you just have to accept and address

sounds like the doctors have a handle on what needs to be done - now comes the hard part of knowing that there is little you can do to change what is, other than find the best qualified medical staff and let them do their thing

the wife's pregnancy is also another stress for sure

find a way to blow off some steam so you don't go too crazy and think that in a month or two you will be the proud papa of two happy, healthy kids

I feel for you my man. I have 4 kids myself (2 girls, 2 boys). My wife had rough pregnancies with 2 of them. Our oldest boy was born almost 3 months early, we were lucky he was born at Phoenix Children's Hospital. He might have died anywhere else. Hang in there, and you're in my (very rare) prayers.

masterphomeg- My family and I will be praying for you. Things like this have arisen in my wife's family and I can tell you that kids recover from this way quicker and better than any doctor will tell you. Everything will turn out fine. Keep your head up. God is with you, bro. Take care of your self while this is all hapening....anxiety will take its toll on you if you let it-I speak from experience.

Update:

Today was Delaney's surgery and so far, everything has gone very well. She's in her ICU room, here at the hospital and they will keep her sedated for a day or two. Hopefully she will get to go home on Monday.

The roughest part was walking into her room for the 1st time after surgery. My wife couldn't go in, so I went with my father in law. Even though the staff prepared me, I still had a hard time with it. She still had her breathing tube in...it's now out...and she's got 3 different IV lines in her along with several other monitors. Once the breathing tube was able to be taken out, it made things better.

My wife had another ultrasound yesterday, with a cardiologist, and it was discovered that our new baby (Kelcie) will have a similar problem when she's born and will require surgery in her 1st week. The doctor is 70-80% sure that Kelcie just has a coarcation, like Delaney, but there is a chance that her condition is worse, because her left ventricle is measuring smaller than her right...how much smaller it ends up being will determine her final course of action. She may require just the same surgery as Delaney, or she might require a 3 step procedure that takes 3 years to complete. Either way, we are trying to stay focused on the positive and will climb the new hurdle in August, when she's born.

I want to thank you guys and gals again, for the kind words...and for keeping my family in your thoughts. You have no idea how much is really means to us. Feel free to drop me a line, anytime, if you want updates.

Great news as far as Delany goes. Sounds like she is handling her business. I like the name BTW. Younger siblings always want to one-up the olders ones, so I expect Kelcie will soar through all of this.

Just wanted to tell you how impressed I am with your strength man. I still struggle when I have to take my kids to the doctors for their routine shots/vacs.

Good luck to the whole family.

Good news that Delaney is recovering nicely. My family will keep Kelcie in our prayers as well.

As I'm sure your finding out, the three step proceedure is a very tough road, but they do have success with it.... it wasn't long ago that there wasn't much they could do.

Go Cards, and go Kelcie & Delaney.
