Not that big a deal IMO. The new guy now has the rest of camp and preseason to get himself acclimated and the rest of the line gelled up for the regular season.

Not a big deal by itself, but couple this with McKillop being out for the year and it's starting to add up. McKillop was their leading tackler on ST last year and tho not starter he was to be a big weapon of theirs on D as well.

He wasn't going to be anything except on ST. That's why we drafted NaVorro Bowman to play ILB.

Can't wait for Dockett and Campbell to smoke that 49ers oline and watch Alice Smith carted off the field a few seconds later.

THat o-line will have big time lurning curve. Our D against thier O-line no contest. On the other hand, our veteran O-line has some meshing to do asw well. It's just better odds that we should win this battle with 2 wins against the niners this year.

I wish we were playing them at the beginning of the season. They have a lot of time to learn before we even play.

Hard to say considering Bowman is just a rookie. You have your opinion how the situation would have played out and I have mine.

Hahaha that's funny because Alex Smith has never been scared to take a hit.

that was right after his shoulder injury so you know he doesn't give a damn

On the other hand, Leinart looked straight up wussie last time he met Patrick Willis.

Yep thats the real story there. I like Baas but he has been injured a lot hasn't been consistently good, and hasn't played much C in the NFL. So you have an OL with 2 rookie starters who would ordinarily need help, and now you're going to have to start a backup C who's not as experienced as Heitmann.

Too early to say what to expect on their OL, apparently Iupati is further along than the first rounder(davis?) right now but they're both considered to have some issues, Iupati in pass protection, the other guy apparently is just raw. Iupati literally just beat out Baas days before the injury moves Baas to C.

Agreed he wasn't a factor outside of ST.

I am surprised he was waived, I assume they had to reach an injury settlement to do so but maybe he asked to be waived, otherwise seemed a bit harsh for a young guy.

Come on even Smith's own teammates were commenting off the record his rookie year that he was afraid in the pocket. There were numerous reports in the local media about players saying Smith was timid in the pocket, it was around the same time they started talking about his hand size because of all the fumbles.

He's a lot better than he was but early in his career multiple times he just essentially tossed the ball up for grabs to avoid a hit.

Interesting point about the C injury in today's paper. The 49ers are planning on limiting their shotgun plays in today's game because neither healthy C has showed in practice they can shotgun snap consistently.

They were talking about how Smith looks more comfortable behind C this year and then said good thing since neither current C has given the team any confidence they can run as much shotgun this year with their snaps.

He cleared waivers and is back with the team (IR).
