Sure glad we didn’t pick up Metcalf.
It’s still rare that a college football player that rarely produced at high level strikes gold at the NFL level.

It just doesn’t happen often so let’s not act like Metcalf looked more than anything like an athletic freak. That’s reality

How does he not have a lot of the same traits as Metcalf? Both big and fast receivers that can makes plays down the field. Of course I have no way of knowing if Butler would have had the same type of impact for us as Metcalf has for Seattle this year, but it isn't blind optimism to suggest that he might have...
See SoonerLou’s post. He was invisible in training camp. If anyone had said much of anything positive about Butler outside of one or two end zone plays in camp, fine. But we all know Butler didn’t have a catastrophic hand injury - we put him on IR because he was probably going to get snagged off of waivers and wasn’t showing enough to contribute. Sure it may be “conjecture,” but we all know better.

He was talked about as a first round pick very close to the draft. Let’s not pretend people didn’t see potential in him, even if he slipped.

Why does this board consistently talk down players that produce but loves complete unknowns?

And you need to not pretend there weren’t serious red flags about Metcalf at Ole Miss.

again there’s a reason a player with so much natural talent showed up to the combine with that body and put up those numbers and still was the 9th player picked at his position.

He didn’t “slip” if he hadn’t blown up the combine he might have gone in rounds 4-6. He did NOTHING at Ole Miss

I didn’t say anything about any other player, just Metcalf. But way to avoid what I said. Lol. He still did basically nothing in college & exactly why doubts about him existed.

it’s still year 1, but he’s done well for a rook.

They are two different arguments. I doubt anyone on this board wouldn't take Metcalf over Isabella right now. That doesn't mean that we have to act like the front office were complete idiots for passing on him in the draft.

McCown had to throw that ball, he just had to. No chance if you don't.

Well...its not like we were spending a 1st round pick....it was the 2nd to last pick in the 2nd round.

He just did something no wr other than Fitz can do.

Thats fine. Why did we reach for Isabella though?

If we're going to gamble on projects...Metcalf made more sense.

but we didn’t and no amount of crying on an internet message board is ever going to change it. What do you want?

you know why we didn’t gamble on him? Because we just gambled on another freak of nature from Ole Miss who did nothing in college and was a work out warrior and lost.
