Man.... I remember wanting to trade up to get this guy when he came out of USC. He fell to the 2nd round and I thought he might even drop to us...

Here is what scout's.com thought of him after the Eagles made the pick:

39. Philadelphia Eagles
Pick acquired from Tennessee
The pick: Winston Justice, OT, USC
Scouts take: This is one of the better picks thus far. After getting an impact player in DT Brodrick Bunkley in the first round, the Eagles addressed one of their greatest needs by selecting Justice, a first-round talent who slid to the second round because of character issues. Justice has excellent quickness for his size and the lateral mobility to slide with pass rushers when they try to redirect inside after starting outside. He could replace Tra Thomas, who is on the downside of his career and has back problems, at left tackle as early as this year.

My point is..... Osi Umenyiora is KILLING Winston tonight. 6 sacks and numerous hurries and pressures. It was an awesome individual performance.

On the other hand.... Here is what they said about Deuce just 2 picks later.. Shows what the "experts" know.

41. Arizona Cardinals
The pick: Taitusi Lutui, OG, USC
Scouts take: Arizona followed an excellent first-round pick with a weak second-round pick. Lutui is an excellent drive blocker who plays with a mean streak and shows adequate lateral mobility in pass protection. The problem is he isn't mobile enough to move to offensive tackle, which is a far greater need than offensive guard. In our opinion, taking Auburn's Marcus McNeill would have been the smarter move here.

Although they hit McNeill correctly.... Deuce isn't the slouch they made him out to be.

I heart Deuce.

Duece is a part of this teams turnaround. His heart, drive and ability show that he is definitely going to turn some heads. He is a monster, and with Grimm's coaching, he will be a serious contender for the pro-bowl in years to come. I think he needs a little work in finishing plays, but Grimm will drill that into his head. Duece is in a great position, as he is playing for the team he loves with people he loves.

I hear that you can now scare Justice by just sneaking up on him and saying "bull rush."

I was thinking about that draft during the game also. Man, Justice was getting abused! Even John Madden said that Justice was doing a terrible job.

Madden also blamed the Eagles for not using the RB to help Justice once youminyoura got around sack number five.

I didn't see most of the game but I have a hard time believing Justice played any worse than the 49ers Justin Smiley did. I know Justice's man had 6 sacks although they weren't all on Justice(I saw it on ESPN at least 2 were stunts where he turned him over to someone else who didn't block him).

Smiley had what Gary Plummer the 49er radio guy called the worst game ever by an OL. He had 3 penalties in the first half, at least 2 others that should have been penalties, gave up I think 3 sacks, and was whiffing terribly in the run game. For a guy who's ordinarily a pretty good player he was beyond bad.

I actually switched and watched the Colts game, I was in Sacramento and they got that game there and then later switched to ours with 2 minutes left. Sure does point out again what an amazing job Grimm has done with our OL, the 49er OL is full of young talented guys with some nice experienced talent mixed in and was one of the strengths of that team, but Grimm has our OL playing much better than theirs.

You know in hindsight, and it's early, but that vaunted USC unreal talent on that team sure hasn't done that well in the NFL?

matt is struggling, Bush is struggling, Mike Williams struggling, Jarrett not doing anything. White is a platoon RB(having a decent year). Justice got roasted last night. You could argue that the most successful guy from that team right now is Lutui. I think most of them WILL be good players, I've never particularly liked Justice for a lot of reasons the primary ones being he's always had issues that lead you to think he's not the most responsible kid around.

I could never figure out why so many people were so high on him before the draft great athlete but he was arguably the weakest of the 5 OL's USC started that year.

I was thinking the exact same thing watching that game last night. I remember being pissed that Philly traded ahead of us to take him right before our pick. Now I'm happy. :)

And getting Deuce has worked out great.
