Pretty much sums up the attitude of the offense..

Look at the fire in his eyes.. Look at the confidence.. Ive been watching this same damn thing play out over a month now..

Yep,

It's pretty obvious, I guess the coaches don't see it the same way, but I wish they'd look closer.

I swear I hope I'm wrong, but Kurt really looked like he regrets not retiring after last season.

I saw that look on the 1st two drives. I still don't put it all on him because coaches and the other players on offense contributed to it also. This team needed to prove to themselves they could do it again and failed miserably on week 1 of a 16 week exam.

If he doesn't turn it around this is how he'll be remembered, not the great season he just had. After the Superbowl everyone was saying he's now a HOF lock. He should have left his legacy at that. During his time in NY and his first 3 years here no one cared about his accomplishments in STL.

I'm sure they do, but how in the hell would they ever be able to explain giving this guy a 2 year $25 mil contract and benching him after one game? They really screwed themselves when they re-signed him. They would look even worse if they signed him to that contract, benched him after one game and still can't extend Q, DD, or Dansby.

He is old and finished. He is not the first nor the last to see father time rear its ugly head. Just hope Whiz and his hypocritical "the best players play" mantra doesn't waste half the season. Whiz plays his boys. Warner is his boy, along with Hightower. Wells better start next week. We will see Leinart soon. Warner is finished.

The Cards were basically in a no win situatuion. The media and fans would have grilled the team for not signing him because of what the team just accomplished. If they let him go to the Niners and he led them to a winning season the same would have been said. Beleive me I went back & forth twice on that situation.

I don't buy the Niners ever really wanted him but maybe they did, I think it was a ploy to extort money out of us and it worked.

I'm really kind of pissed thinking about it more and more. I wanted him to retire at the time, because I knew him coming back would not be good for the long term, but then I thought he could give us one more year. That was of course before he flirted with San Fran, then he gets paid and THEN has hip surgery? Did the Cards not know about this? How is the world do they get suckered into this?

No way. I said at the time not to re-sign him and a lot of people felt that way. The Cardinals could have allocated their money much better than choosing to invest in a 38 year old QB, with a history of injuries and only one good season under his belt in four years as a Cardinal. That fact that he used a divsion rival to use as leverage against the Cards pisses me off even more.

That was a total douche move on his part. I forget, did he take a physical for SF or just show up for a tour?

I'm pretty sure it was just a tour.

We have an inept GM that hit the panic button bigtime, they fell for the old tap out a division rival ploy.

I was screaming this at the time, it was obvious they were just doing this to bid up his price and cost us cap money.

We should have made it a one year deal or two for half the money we finally offered, paying what we did was robbery, especially given his hip surgery.

We got railroaded and our management fell for it hook line and sinker, they totally worked us over, it was pathetic and I said so at the time.

did the Cards know about the bum hip before he re-signed?

Yes, unless Whisenhunt was part of the lie.

"Everything went well and I'm feeling great," Warner said Wednesday. "I began rehab on a stationary bike just a few hours after surgery and then a couple more times today.

"The injury was one I sustained and played with last season and although I could have continued to play with it, I felt this was best for short-term success on the field as well as long-term comfort off the field. I am ready to go to work and back so we can build on what we accomplished last season."

Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt supported the decision for Warner to have the surgery.

"We talked right after the season and we all agreed that this procedure was the best option and this would be a good time," he said. "I talked to Kurt today (Wednesday) and he felt good.

I don't think Warner hid it and I wasn't thinking it was a conspiracy, just pointing out how stupid our upper management is to resign a guy like that, either they didn't know, STUPID or they did know, STUPID.

It's only a STUPID conspiracy to give Warner the contract he got based on panicing with Matt on your bench, it was totally bushleague to let him drive that kind of bargin.

It was all PR not to look cheap, the one time they should of been cheap to save money to sign other players.

It wasn't you implying it was hid, conrad.

If they weren't going to re-sign Warner then they HAD to believe Leinart was the guy. Obviously, they didn't. Instead, they actually promised a nothing QB he'd have a chance to beat out Leinart if he re-signed. How could they turn the reins over to Leinart when they weren't even sure he was a good #2?

This isn't another Montana and Steve Young situation. Neither one of our guys is as good.

Well they were wrong about BSP, he's getting a million bucks to suck wind.

They were wrong about the competition, BSP got smoked, bad, bad enough that had it been truly open Warner would of probably lost too.

So it's on them for being blind to the possibility that could happen, that's a GM's job, to evaluate talent, and they have royally screwed up in doing so, paying BSP a million bucks was stupid, OMG he might go to KC, OH NO.

If they truly thought he'd beat Matt out then they're dumber than I thought they are and that goes for anyone who thought that, including Whis.

We've just sunk a ton of money into the QB position and we have a nothing burger and a washed up KW for all that money.

This isn't how good teams do it and even if it's not on the level of Young and Montana it's up there on the stupid scale somewhere.

It's like he can't get beyond the way the SB ended. 30 seconds from retiring as a champion...then maybe he felt compelled to come back to try to go out like Elway. But it almost never happens (ask Favre).

It's only 1 game, but it was ugly.

There will not be another Warner year like he had last year ever again.. The dude hasnt put back to back phenominal seasons in his whole career.. He's too old to wait for another one now.. We waited out his one good year in a Cards uniform.. Its over.. I wanted to move on to the Leinart era this past offseason.. But, we had to sign him back to ridiculous contract because all the bandwagon fans would have jumped off and created a earthquake big enuff to make Cali fall off into the pacific if we didnt.. BTW.. How did Warner make good on his statement that he would give money to get Q resigned? I know Fitz put his money where his mouth was..

What the heck are you people talking about?

One person says conspiracy and suddenly everyone is talking like someone else thinks there is one.

There is no conspiracy, we screwed up.

Our GM hit the panic button and upped our offer from reasonable to stupid, based on BS negotiating tactics.

No one said at the time we shouldn't resign the guy, just that there should be a point past where we'd be ok not signing him and letting someone else fork over the money, to call his bluff.

If anyone really thought he'd sign on to play for the 9ers with NO WR's like he has here then they're stupid.

STUPID.

He wasn't going to do that, we choked and we blinked first, I was jumping up and down at the time saying not to fall for it and they did.

I totally agree. Circumstances were such that this wasn't strictly an on-field issue. When you win a couple of Super Bowls, you can play hardball like the Pats or cut a HoF QB like the Niners. Ownership would have been called cheap (actually, were being called cheap, and questioned how they could let the QB who led them to the SB languish enough to visit SF). It's the same as how not extending Nash this offseason wasn't ever really an option.

In the raw emotion of the moment, I say "Bring on Leinart"

But after a cool down period I believe that it was Warner that got us to the Superbowl and you can't just bench him based on one game. The earliest realistic time would be after the week 4 bye. Even if you started 0-3 you can come back in this division and win it at 9-7.

I don't think enough people are blaming Whiz here. The play calling was atrocious. There is one huge difference I see between last years offense and this years. It's unconventional type plays and play calling with some innovation. TH last year would run really weird formations and sometimes unconventional plays to mix up opposing defenses. This offense really looks predictable like the old offenses we had. There were no trick plays, weird formations or anything that appeared imaginative.

I agree that Kurt didn't look that great but that offensive game plan blew chunks. So did the play calling throughout the game. I hate to say it but I really think this team is going to miss TH calling the plays if this keeps up.
