Plot Summary: From Scott Cooper, the critically-acclaimed writer and director of "Crazy Heart," comes a gripping and gritty drama about family, fate, circumstance, and justice. Russell Baze (Christian Bale) has a rough life: he works a dead-end blue collar job at the local steel mill by day, and cares for his terminally ill father by night. When Russell's brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) returns home from serving time in Iraq, he gets lured into one of the most ruthless crime rings in the Northeast and mysteriously disappears. The police fail to crack the case, so - with nothing left to lose - Russell takes matters into his own hands, putting his life on the line to seek justice for his brother.

Went at midnight. Slow, choppy and not worth the XD price. Worth a rental at home.

Woody Harrelson was the best part of the movie.

Agreed. The best part of the movie got little screen time. The pacing was crap, cinematography crap, and it ruined the movie. Some good acting jobs just shot to hell by the rest of it.

I've heard the same thing from others that Shane and Stout have said. Not gonna go out to see this one. I'll wait for the screener.

too bad...it's a GREAT cast and the trailer made it look really, really good.

There was something in the trailer I saw that made me think twice about going to see it. I can't explain it, there was just something hinky in the preview.

But it did prompt me to say to my wife "We can wait until it's on Netflix to watch this one."

The thing is, the acting was excellent, I thought. Everything else really sucked, though.

seems like this year's version of Killing Them Softly, right down to the exact same release weekend.

Sums it up perfectly. A STELLAR cast that did everything humanly possible to save a horrible script, but it still wasn't enough.

There are tons of movies with the exact same plot that have done it so much better. The director tried to draw every scene out like a blade to elicit suspense, but it was just boring and went nowhere.

Great acting performances, terrible movie. A rare achievement. It reminded me of Crazy heart in that regard (same director) but Crazy heart was better, but honestly, if Jeff Bridges hadn't been so unbelievably good in Crazy Heart, it would have been terrible. This director obviously knows how to get the best out of his actors, so maybe he should just direct and play no part in the screen play/story/editing?
