One website thinks so...

Starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa was firmly planted in this spot at the All-Star break, but his last two starts (2-0, 15 innings pitched, one run allowed) have made his overall numbers look much more palatable.

Instead, middle infielder Chris Owings "earns" the infamous moniker of least valuable player. In 89 games (79 of those at second base), Owings has collected a team-worst -0.6 offensive wins above replacement. His meager slash line of .232/.262/.328 is downright ugly. His defense has been solid, but it doesn't help mitigate those awful stats in the batter's box.

LaRussa spoke earlier today on Doug and Wolf and said he's trying to work through a shoulder injury, needs to work on extending his muscles, he's not fully driving yet. They see him as part of an October team, so they will be patient with him.

If he has a shoulder injury, why is he not on the Disabled List?

We already have .233 (Pennington) and .214 (Hill) as backup infielders who, I am sure, could fill his shoes for the rest of the season.

I agree with you, LaRusso was non-committal and said a trip down might be in the works, but he compared him to Ahmed, and the work they did with him, and were hoping for the same results.

Sidenote: They don't consider it an injury, just that he's not fully extending yet, and they expect that with time

Ahmed is batting .230. Owings is batting .231.

Their wish came true. They are getting the same results.

I can't help but laugh as I read that. But there is nothing funny about it.

um, have you seen the splits on Ahmed lately? Trust this organization to figure it out, we have men in charge now, not boys. If Owings doesn't rise, he's gone. Ahmed is on fire.

I wish you were right about Ahmed. But he has been cold and hot and cold and, recently, hot.

And with that all, he came into today's game with a season's batting average one point behind Owings.

I hope it changes for Ahmed, but he has not yet reached the level that the FO has been hoping for Owings to reach.

I wanted Ahmed to be at .250. He is closer to .220. But when I watch his outstanding fielding, I can live with 3 less hits in 100 at at bats. And I normally hate .220 hitters. I may be wrong on the stats but I know it is next to nothing.
