i think we all agree that Amos Jones is terrible, yet Budda Baker this year and Justin Bethel prior to him, have been first team all-pro and acknowledged as the best special teams players in the league every year other than 2016 since 2013.

In Bethels case anyway it was hard to deny...it often looked like he was the only guy on our coverage team...dude would fly down and make a tackled before most of our guys were out of their stance... that aint coaching, just personal motivation.

Agree that cards need a break from Amos.

Without coaching, players can only run in a straight line. Don't need to kick the man (Amos) when he is down.

Justin Bethel was such a beast in special teams.

The more, and more I think about the Cardinals fall from prominence, it is almost unbelievable how many players just dropped off the map in a matter of 2 years.

Justin Bethel was special teams DEMON! Blocked punts, kicks, made tackle after tackle. Then he became a cornerback, and a horrible cornerback to boot. With his new cornerback position his special teams play, literally vanished.

Bethel has a year in his league left, tops. One team with sign him next offseason out of desperation and if he is luck to make it out of camp, he will be exposed, and cut eventually.

Unbelievable when you think of how good he was only a few years ago on special teams.

Earlier in the year, Baker was commenting on how Bethel was helping him out on his ST play. So that now means we have another ST coach candidate - Bethel and Dawson, both better than Amos

Maybe we can chalk up our ST performance to "bad luck", but if so, I'm a great believer in jettisoning unlucky players and coaches. Nothing personal - just feel that bad luck is no different than, say, a balky knee or bad ankle.

Some of the worst teams in history have produced Pro-bowlers, in spite of their coaching, I won't for a second put the fact that a few of our ST players have got PB nods, as a plus-mark for Lamos.

It's often said that if your team's punter makes the pro bowl, doesn't look good for your team unless it's a beat hall of fame punter like Ray Guy. Cards had Rich Camarillo and Scott Player who were both pro-bowlers. Camarillo did it 5 times as a Cardinal. What does that tell you.

It's correct that you need quite a few young players that earn their paycheck on special teams and give it all week in week out, basically soldiers. You can't succeed with just soldiers though, but you need leadership too on special teams. Remember Reggie Walker? He was a subpar backup ILB for us and later for the Chargers, but a true leader on special teams. Wouldn't be surprised if he's still around somewhere leading a special teams group. Same with our former Fullback Anthony Sherman, who is now doing incredibly well on the Chiefs on both offense and special teams. You need such types of ST leaders, who cost a bit more than your usual veteran minimum. Saw an article I couldn't find anymore about the Titans, who have one of the best special teams, paying 3 non-kicking core ST players more than 1m each, who are the glue on their ST that holds everything together.
