Bad news, Schlereth was warming up tonight and he had to stop due to something wrong with his left arm.

Excerpt from the Republic:
Spoke with Diamondbacks scout Rodney Davis, who is responsible for scouting the state of Arizona for the club, and here’s some snippets of what he said about Schlereth.

What kind of pitcher is he?
“He’s a back-end-of-the-bullpen, setup/closer type with three power pitches. A fastball that is 94-96, a big hammer breaking ball, which he throws about 80-81 mph, and then he has a power change-up also, with fade and sink. Just a dynamic, aggressive guy that I think has the makeup to pitch inside that late-inning role.”

Sounds like he could be a quick-to-the-majors type?
“That’s one of the things that I really liked about him. I thought that he has a chance to impact our system and our big league team very quickly, in a short period of time. He’s advanced in terms of stuff and maturity. Just a fantastic young person and a fantastic family.”

He is said to come with some command issues, but his walks have gone down every year at UA.
“As much as anything, his maturity as a young person has a lot to do with that. I think he has matured and his ability to focus and concentrate has improved. It was never a question of delivery as far as I was concerned, just maturity. … There were circumstances that he would pitch in that weren’t competitive and didn’t force him to buckle down. That concentration wasn’t there. It took a tight spot for him to really gear up and focus. That was one of the things I noticed in the past. Whereas this year, he didn’t need circumstances to focus and concentrate to be competitive.”

They say he has a football mentality?
“His father played in the NFL, but I don’t see him as being a football-minded guy in his approach, just an athlete/competitor. He’s a guy who seems to thrive in the environment of a good hitter’s up in a tight ballgame and having to be the guy. I don’t see that kind of head-through-the-wall mentality. He’s quite an interesting young person. Diverse with the things he likes to talk about and interact with. I would say that there’s some free spirit, some left-handedness to him.”

He was really dominant in an outing against Fullerton earlier this year when he struck out seven guys in three innings. Did you happen to see that game?
“Yeah, I’ve seen him at home and on the road against top competition and this guy understands how to take it to the next level. And yeah, I was there (vs. Fullerton). He was also very impressive against ASU in a midweek game. He came into a hostile environment, cool as a cucumber, and just showed every bit of his ability that night.”

From the post game, looks like Daniel has a strained oblique muscle.

From ESPN.com:

"Schlereth is another college reliever who should be quick to the majors, even getting there this year. He has a plus fastball and breaking ball. He should wreck left-handed hitters in the big leagues. I had him ranked lower because he has a limited history. He blew out his elbow and had Tommy John surgery. He only came back to form over the last two months."

I nearly went through the Tommy John proceedure in college but decided against it. My surgeon said it's such a common surgery now-a-days that the recovery time is way low and the success rate is way high. In addition most pitchers gain 3-4 MPH on their fastball. I still have some tingling pain in my arm when I do curls at the gym or related movements, but overall it doesn't hinder me

When I was getting my consult there was a 15 year old kid in to have it done.

The question is, which curls are you doing at the gym?
