I got the Stanford/USC game after hockey last night and after that game they showed us the end of Oregon and WSU. As a UCLA fan of course I wanted WSU to lose.
So 12.9 seconds left, Oregon leading 71-68, WSU inbounds in the backcourt. Announcer points out that Oregon has only 4 team fouls(shocking Oregon at home) and they should burn 2 fouls to slow down WSU. I'm thinking Ernie Kent will never think of that, but sure enough as they inbound it Kent is yelling at his players to foul when they get to halfcourt. So Weaver dribbles up the left side, and right as he crosses halfcourt, Malik Hairston reaches across, grabs his arm and fouls him. The ref standing directly behind both players.... does nothing!
The ball comes out, rolls down the sideline where a WSU player tries to save it. An Oregon player diving for the ball collides with him, he goes out of bounds, and they give the ball to oregon out of bounds. They inbound, get fouled, ballgame.
Yes WSU still had to make a 3 to tie it and even if they call the foul, Oregon can burn another one. But they had plenty of time. And it was comical, the refs KNEW Oregon was going to foul, and they still didn't call it?
If I were Tony Bennett I would be sending a tape of that play to the appropriate people today, it was just a joke.
