From that article it also looks like Harrington is likely moving and that the Pacers want Luke Jackson.

Bird must be referring to the players the Rockets are trading.

I think the Rockets will pull this off because McGrady says he wants to go there and no where else.

I doubt McGrady said that.

He listed Phoenix just a couple of weeks ago.

He has stayed quite the last couple of days.

The only ones assuming that McGrady said that is the media because they are assuming that Phoenix would have the best offer otherwise.

I just think that the Suns haven't offered a really good deal yet. Because where TMac wants to go doesn't really matter anyway.

Go get him and let him opt out. If it costs us only Marion and Johnson we will at worst get rid off Marion's contract and have like 14M$ more capspace next season.

But realistically there won't be any better situations for McGrady than Phoenix in 2005 unless he wants to go to Utah or Atlanta it looks like.

Another option the Suns would have if they traded for TMac would be his trade value.

Getting rid of Marions contract is nice, pluss you would have a player that is VERY tradable incase he doesnt fit in on our team. We would have pleanty of options, and he we be resigned so he would have no say in where we trade him....

What I should have said is,

McGrady said Houston is the only team he will sign an extension with.

Let him go there.

Slinslin,

No way the suns are going to give JJ & Marion with the chance of losing them both if McGrady moves on!!

Some of you guys are putting way to much value on McGrady!!

I actually don't remember Tracy McGrady himself ever mentioning the Phoenix Suns. It was Chad Ford, Peter Vescey, and a few other journalists who said that he would be willing to go to the Phoenix Suns. Of course the situation has changed now because they are so close to a deal with Houston. If McGrady really wants to go to Houston instead of Phoenix all he really has to do is say that he won't agree not to opt out of his contract. Orlando has a few options, but McGrady is really in the drivers seat right now.

I do believe this. Somehow he got the rep of being a bona fide superstar. He has led the league in scoring, but he has not led a team anywhere. I know that he doesn't have much around him, but you would think a super star would at least get his team up to mediocre level.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him. But he's not a player that justifies the demands Orlando is making. In the end, its the team that you have left that makes a trade worth.

I am so glad BC and Co are standing their ground on this.

Well JC, at least we agree on something. :) frankly I worry about McGrady's health and salary without even considering what the Phoenix Suns would have to give up to get him.

so the idea is getting rid of marion who brings a lot to the team, and not so much as it is getting a player you feel would help the team out more?

Glory be! And I agree with that too! I guess I just have a problem with the "all the eggs in one basket" approach. Dice, Googs, Penny, Richey Sexson, etc has soured me on that.

I would not only be afraid of T-Mac being chronically injured, I would EXPECT it. Again, he's worth having, but not all by himself.

I think we should start agreeing on everything now. I know I couldn't agree with you more about this. I like Tracy McGrady's game on offense. I honestly think he is better than anyone in the NBA including Kobe Bryant in that department. I just don't like the way he carries himself. Frankly he looks stoned every time I see him. He seems lazy, and that has been one of the reported issues with the Orlando Magic.

I also agree with you regarding the injuries. This is a guy who is going to be making $15-20 million each season over the next 7 seasons (assuming he re-signs), and I expect injury problems with him the whole way through. I also worry that he is injuries will come at the end of the season and into the playoffs even if he is willing to play through them.

One of the first reports we heard about the suns was something like,

We would only be interested if they took Marion for McGrady.

The suns may not be offering as much as these reports we are hearing about, and that may be why the deal is not going down. Houston may be offering more and Orlando is trying to make it work.

depends on what you mean by "better situation." remember, it's not always about the best team w/ cap room. remember dice fled a 50 win suns team to a crappy denver team. we can't be mcdyessed again.
