The Green Bay Packers announced the signing of linebacker Kristian Welch, returning the Wisconsin native to Green Bay and giving Rich Bisaccia a potential special teams asset in 2025.

Welch, who grew up in Iola, Wisconsin, played in 12 regular season games and two postseason games for the Packers in 2023. After not making the team's 53-man roster to open 2024, Welch spent time with the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens during the 2024 season, appearing in 15 total games. The Packers originally signed Welch to the practice squad before the 2023 season.

Welch has played in 72 career games across five NFL seasons. He has 40 career tackles, mostly on special teams, including six tackles for the Packers in 2023. He also recovered a fumble during his lone season in Green Bay.

Welch has played almost 2,000 career special teams snaps. Returning to the Packers gives Welch a real chance to replace Eric Wilson -- who left for Minnesota in free agency -- as the veteran backup linebacker who contributes across multiple special teams groupings.

The Packers signed Welch and re-signed Isaiah McDuffie at linebacker this offseason. They'll team with expected starters Quay Walker and Edgerrin Cooper at the position in 2025.
