The Green Bay Packers are hosting Texas A&M edge rusher Shemar Stewart on one of the team's 30 pre-draft visits on Wednesday, according to a story on Stewart's official Instagram account. The photo in the Instagram story is of Stewart taking a tour inside Lambeau Field -- a typical social media post from players on draft visits to Green Bay.
Teams are allowed to host up to 30 prospects on visits before the draft. These visits are often called "top 30 visits" or "30 visits." Stewart is the first reported visit for the Packers.
Stewart (6-5, 267) is expected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft. He produced only 4.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss over three seasons at Texas A&M, but Stewart has the kind of length, power and athleticism teams covet at edge rusher.
Stewart was dominant at the Senior Bowl and then put together a historic performance at the NFL Scouting Combine, running the 40-yard dash in 4.59 seconds, hitting 40" on the vertical leap and covering 10-11 in the broad jump at 267 pounds -- likely confirming his stock as a first-rounder. One of his best athletic comparisons is Myles Garrett, making him even more tantalizing as a prospect but also puzzling given his lack of production at the collegiate level.
At an official pre-draft visit, teams will get an in-person chance to finish the evaluation process on a single prospect. Teams will likely want to more information in determining if Stewart is a boom-or-bust prospect or if he could quickly develop into a game-wrecking force in a pro defense.
The Packers need help at edge rusher and could be considering Stewart -- an elite athlete at a premium position from a top conference -- as a top option in the 2025 draft.
The Packers pick at No. 23 overall in the first round. It's possible Stewart will be long gone by then.
