Coach Shayne Combs is in his 30th year of coaching high school baseball — 19 as head coach at Paint Valley.
Last season, the Bearcats went 13-13 overall.
Returning starters this year are:
The newcomers to the team are:
“The guys are focused on returning the program to the incredible momentum we had in that 2014-2021 stretch. During that eight-year stretch (seven seasons because of COVID), the program was performing at an elite level. Since then, we have fallen on some hard times," Combs said. "Some things such as injuries have been out of our control, but others have been completely our fault in terms of grades and commitment to the program. For us, it 100% starts with me helping our team understand that we can only reach our full potential when every player gets it done in the classroom and commits to being a Bearcat throughout the entire process. Last year was a positive step forward, and we are hoping 2025 includes another step in the right direction.”
Jason Stauffer is in his third year as head coach and looking to improve upon last year's 3-22 record.
To do that, it will mean relying on seven returning starters.
They are led by all-league and all-district first-team player Sophi Stauffer, a senior, who batted .492 with 34 stolen bases.
Kasarah Cantrell, a junior, was all-league and an all-district honorable mention pitcher with over 100 strikeouts last year.
Kyla Littler, a junior, was all-league honorable mention and batted .500.
Delainey Mannion, Lydia Hamilton, Carlee Spurlock and Jazz Miller are also returning starters
"Our goals this year are to improve with every pitch and show Pride in ourselves, keep the proper Attitude, show Class at all times, use our Talent to its fullest potential (PACT)," said Stauffer.
