The Carolina Panthers did quite a bit of work on their defense through free agency. So, do they now feel inclined to use the draft to address the shortcomings on the other side of the ball?

President of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan hit the lectern for a brief chat with reporters on Wednesday. And with the 2025 NFL draft less than a month away, he was asked if the team will focus more on offense during the selection process—specifically on the wide receiver position.

Morgan, however, believes that Carolina's free-agent additions have not affected their plans for the end of April.

"Like I've said to you guys before, we're gonna take the best players," he replied. "So however that ends up on the board, when it comes to Pick 8, Pick 8's an offensive guy or a defensive guy—we're just gonna draft the best player that we feel is gonna help our team, help our organization moving forward. And we're really not gonna box ourselves in with any position or any need. I think that's when you get yourself in trouble is when you do those type of things."

Morgan and company devoted much of their time and resources at the start of free agency to patching up their historically-bad defense. The team reached deals with four defenders on the first day of the legal tampering period on March 10—including defensive linemen Bobby Brown III and Tershawn Wharton, outside linebacker Pat Jones II and safety Tre'von Moehrig.

But not much has been done to elevate the floor of their wideout room. Other than reworking their existing contract with 34-year-old Adam Thielen, the only receivers the Panthers have inked are David Moore and Dan Chisena—who were on the roster in 2024.

Unfortunately for Carolina, this year's draft class isn't particularly top-heavy at the position. In fact, there may be only one receiving prospect, University of Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, worth taking at the eighth overall pick.

Other first-round options, perhaps in a trade-down scenario, may include Texas' Matthew Golden, Missouri's Luther Burden III and Ohio State's Emeka Egbuka.
