Believe it or not, we currently are ranked 3rd in the league with 18 sacks. EIGHTEEN.

We only had 36 and 35 the last 2 seasons. We already got half as many sacks and it's not even halfway through the season. Did we even have double-digit sacks around this time the past 2 seasons? The addition of Chandler Jones lets Calais and Golden engages on 1v1s instead of double teams. Once Nkemdiche gets up to speed(hopefully), ahhhhh man!

I know it's been a rough start for the team, but I must say I am impressed greatly with this pass-rush so far.

Its certainly improved and I am happy, but I must say...it should be better. Especially for how much we blitz. Consider we are #1 in blitzing, yet why are we #3 in sacks? Dont you think we should be #1 in sacks if we are #1 in blitzing?

Its a minor gripe. I would like to see Chandler get more consistent pressures.

Golden is the star of our pass rush so far.

While our pass rush is good, it will become very good/great when we get a VG inside push like we had when we had Darnell Dockett. CC is a VG DT but not a great pass rusher. I still have hope for Robert Nkemdiche (Sp?).

Very good? Not sure why that has to be abbreviated.

Oh I see it now, yeah thats odd. I was thinking "veteran guard", what the heck is a VG?

Cards have been 1st in blitzing for a few years, now...in 2015 they were 21st in sacks. In that regard, they have made leaps and bounds improvement, to be in the top 5.

when i see great stats about the defense i take it with a grain of salt
what is really important is red zone defense , if your defense cant allowed scoring touchdowns easily

many of our sacks were coverage sacks btw , so was more on our defensive backs unit
obviously we have upgraded the position even if the defensive line struggled so far

One thing we only do sporadically is get our hands up when we pass rush.

May not seem relatively important but I think this is underrated because it can really screw up a QB's vision and passing lanes.

Yeah I've been thinking that too. Golden has been terrific but Jones is a huge reason why all this is happening teams have to worry about him and now that we're moving him around it's giving Golden more 1 on 1 chances and he's making them pay. And now CC is getting more help he's freed up.

Yep if Nkemdiche can get healthy and get himself ready to go he could really help us for depth this year and eventually as a starter I certainly hope.

A-La- Chandler Jones's deflected pass that resulted in CC's INT. I have often wondered why we don't deflect more passes, and after thinking about I just wonder if hand placement might have something to do with it. In other words is our D-line hand fighting starting too low at the snap therefore allowing the opposing O-line to tie their hands up down near their waist?

Strong pass rush will pay off down the road, as will a good run game. Even if our offense doesn't reach the 2015 level in terms of gaudy numbers, with a better run game and better pass rush, I see us doing well in the playoffs. Missing a pass rush made us look like we didn't even belong there the last 3 seasons.

This, because it still seems most QBs have all day

I'm guessing that pass rushers don't like to be cut blocked and would rather keep their hands down to ward off low blockers than keep their hands up, hurdle and risk knee damage. I'm just a fan who lacks the inside knowledge of pass rush techniques but am thinking "there must be a better way" & open up the issue to all of you folk.

Here is what I'm talking about D-lineman are taught to explode up making the first contact a thrust with their hands to the chest of the o-lineman. I will need to focus more on that in the next few games. Even edge rusher as you can see in the attached photos have their hands high, so if they can't get to the QB they can get their hands up to knock down the pass. Nobody does it better then JJ SWAT.
