After making the playoffs for the first time since 2015 last fall, the Denver Broncos now have big expectations for the future.
Denver improved the offense during NFL free agency by adding tight end Evan Engram, giving young quarterback Bo Nix another weapon to utilize in Year 2. The Broncos also improved an already-talented defense in free agency, adding a much-needed safety and linebacker to a squad led by Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain.
Now entering his fifth season, Surtain has set the bar high in Denver.
During a recent interview with DJ Siddiqi of RG.org, PS2 was asked if the Broncos can emerge as Super Bowl considers.
“Oh, for sure,” Surtain told Siddiq. “I think any team is a contender. I feel like that's the topic that some people look at and say, 'Are the Broncos Super Bowl contenders?' I feel like we are contenders in our own right. I feel like we are building success and I think we are headed in the right direction for sure.”
After going 2-5 against playoff-qualifying teams in 2024 and getting bounced in the first round of the postseason, Denver still has plenty of work to do to take the next step.
“Obviously, you just don't wake up and say like, 'Okay, I want to be in the Super Bowl,'” Surtain said. “Obviously there's work to put in before that. I think we have a great chance for sure. We're building up a team to reach — obviously in the playoffs — but even further.
“Like I said, we built this team up for the right reasons to reach that step. So we'll see. But I'm very optimistic about our future in reaching the Super Bowl.”
We already know the list of teams the Broncos will face in 2025, but dates and times will not be finalized until the NFL's schedule is announced later this spring. Fans in Denver are excited about the team's long-term outlook, and PS2 seems to feel the same way.
