The Arizona Diamondbacks demoted starting pitcher Allen Webster to Triple-A Tuesday night, and the gap in the rotation could signal an earlier-than-expected return for Patrick Corbin, who's spent over a season recovering from Tommy John surgery. From Zach Buchanan of The Arizona Republic:
"On Wednesday, manager Chip Hale said the team is considering filling that gap with Corbin himself. 'It's not like we're speeding him up,' Hale said. 'He's had all the prerequisites. We just wanted one more in our thinking, and then rethinking it maybe he doesn't need it.' Corbin was initially scheduled to pitch a tune-up outing with Triple-A Reno on Thursday, but will stay in Phoenix while the organization figures out a plan for him. An internal candidate like Josh Collmenter or a minor-league call-up could still be an option to start."
