The New England Patriots are uniquely positioned heading into the 2025 NFL draft.
They have a clear need for a left tackle, but with the No. 4 overall pick in the first round, they could have an opportunity to land one of the top two projected players on the entire draft board, Penn State's Abdul Carter or Colorado's Travis Hunter.
As Patriots coach Mike Vrabel puts it, the best-case scenario would be the team's need at left tackle aligning with the best player available. But things could get tricky if that isn't the case.
While the Patriots have a need at left tackle, it might be a big mistake skipping out on the best player available in a desperation move.
“I just think you have to be careful," Vrabel said at the NFL Annual Meeting, via Boston Herald's Doug Kyed. "Hopefully, those two things can come together and align when you’re drafting. But we certainly want to add premium players at the top of the draft and throughout the draft. That’s our goal.”
If Carter and Hunter are both gone, the expectation is that the Patriots would draft a left tackle. The two players likely on their radar in such a scenario would be LSU's Will Campbell or Missouri's Armand Membou.
There's also the possibility that the team could trade down for more picks.
