Jeez, look at how high he is.

BTW I doubt he made that slam dunk. :)

It's actually a better selling point for Pavel than Josh. It is hard to tell exactly where the ball is in relation to Pavel's hand due to the angle of the shot, but it looks like Pavel is going to block the shot.

If the NBA permitted a pure zone, having Pavel stand under the basket would be great. They don't, which is why quickness is so important.

I actually like the air that Pavel is getting on that block attempt. We know that Josh Smith can jump...we don't know that Pavel can.

Pavel is 7'5 how much air did he have under his jump?

Last year in the predraft camp he finished last in vertical jump and lane agility I think.

Well the picture I saw of Pavel on inside a year ago he was standing under the basket and holding the net so I would say he got at least a foot on that jump.

Maybe an inch or two more.

There is a huge advantage to being able to block shots standing flatfooted because it means the player can play straight up to take a charge as well as block the shot. Most shot blockers like Amare and Shawn do so from the back side because if they leap in front they will get called for a foul on contact.

The problem is being quick enough to be in position in time.

I honestly don't think I can remember one instance of a player really going for a block and getting a charge. Maybe I didn't watch Yao Ming enough.

Kind of looks like Josh Smith is displaying the best of his limited skills and gets the harsh reality that he isn't in High School anymore dunking over 6 foot defenders.
