And I don't mean kissing in public!

I am looking for a relatively cheap, no thrills pda. I dont need wifi, or any special-ness. I will mainly use it for the calendar and most importantly, if it can read .txt files and word docs. (I'm thinking they can...at least, I hope).

Any thoughts?

I would look at perhaps upgrading your cell phone.
Most higher end phones have and are able to do what you are asking. Plus you don't have to carry two devices around.
I use a Blackberry and I amable to sync with my Outlook calendar and contacts and read text and document files. A Blackberry may more them you need but there are plenty of phones that will do what you want. Without raising your phone bill.

You can get a Palm Zire31 with 8gb for less than $100 (since it's been discontinued but still out there) and you can download tons of progams to read Word docs, etc.

Or the one with 16gb, but it's a bit pricier:

http://www.amazon.com/Palm-ZIRE31-PalmOne-Zire-Handheld/dp/B0001KWGOW

The combo devices (phone/pda) always have one feature that doesn't work as well as a stand-alone. I keep hearing that the phone quality is not very good, or vice versa.

Funny you mentioned that link - when I clicked it, it said the newer model of that was the one I actually ended up getting: http://www.amazon.com/Palm-1048NA-Z22-Handheld/dp/B000BI2180/ref=dp_ob_title

It's very very basic, but perfect for what I want to do (read txt files). Got myself a converter to change it into the palm's format and I am good to go! Very pleased so far.

(and BIM, I bought it with cash :))

wow, 32gb memory for less than $100 - that's a bargain. BIM would approve.

Ugh, my wife just sold my blackberry at our garage sale for 5 dollars

I hope Palm isn't in trouble I own 200 shares that I've had for 10 plus years (jumps off building)
To their credit they just paid me a bunch of money per share and I bought Bear Stearns stock at 3.00 per share off that money and it's now sitting at ~ 10.00.

Go Palm
