Despite having a realistic chance of receiving an invite to one of the alternate postseason basketball tournaments, Penn State has officially pulled its name from consideration for the NIT and the College Basketball Crown tournament.

In a brief statement released by the athletics department on Sunday afternoon, Penn State confirmed its men's basketball season is now officially in the books.

"Penn State Basketball has removed itself from postseason consideration and will turn its full attention and focus on building for the 2025-26 season," the statement from Penn State's athletics department said.

Penn State's disappointing season ends with a final record of 16-15, which was capped off with an upset win over Wisconsin in Madison in the regular season finale. Penn State missed out on competing in the Big Ten men's basketball tournament after finishing in 17th place in the 18-team Big Ten. Penn State finished 6-14 in Big Ten play during the regular season.

Penn State has played in the NIT 11 times in program history, and the Nittany Lions have won the tournament twice. Penn State won the NIT in 2018, its most recent NIT appearance. Penn State also won the NIT in 2009. Penn State played for the NIT championship in 1998 but came up short against Minnesota, and the Nittany Lions have won the third-place game three times (1990, 1995, and 2000).
