The Pensacola Catholic athletic department has its new boss.
Matt Adams, who was previously the Crusaders' head football coach and currently serves as the school's director of facilities and events, was announced as the school's new athletic director on Friday.
The school's post noted that Adams will continue his role as the facilities director. Adams' responsibilities as AD will start during the 2025-26 school year, once Richard LaBounty's resignation comes into effect at the conclusion of this school year.
"We are thrilled to be able to be able to have the continued leadership of an administrator and coach as experienced as Coach Adams is as our athletic director," Pensacola Catholic principal Sister Kierstin Martin said in a note to the school's faculty.
LaBounty announced his resignation at the beginning of the month from athletic director, but it's not known yet if he'll stay on as the head baseball coach or not.
Adams graduated from Pensacola Catholic in 2000, and took over the bench boss role for football in 2017 but had been within the coaching ranks for the Crusaders for 20 years.
Pensacola Catholic made the regional playoffs six times under the tutelage of Adams, highlighted by a trip to the Region 1-3A final in 2019 and then visit to the Class 2S state semifinals in 2023, which ended in heartbreak fashion in overtime to Bradford. Adams was the PNJ Coach of the Year twice in 2018 and 2023.
