A couple of spring seasons are underway over the next couple of weeks for Perry.

The Bluejays made it to the state meet in 2024 via Owen Myers continuing the program’s legacy of hurdlers, having been a qualifier as a sophomore and junior. Coming off a surge on the basketball floor, Myers looks to go to Drake Stadium for a third year in a row.
Hoping to join him, the team’s most prolific sprinter Renzo Saenz is also rostered this season for his senior year. He has been the team’s fastest 100-meter dash runner the past two seasons and also made a leap in the 200 event, giving flexibility in a number of relays.
Perry’s track season officially kicks off on April 1 in Earlham.

This year’s roster brings back an exciting group that made it to the state meet in 2024, with Cate Erickson, Treasure Moore, Taryn Nehring and Lily Myers all capable of getting Perry back to the biggest stage.
Last year, the group was put together for the sprint medley with great success, placing 23rd at the state meet with a time of 4 minutes 32 seconds. Their ceiling was actually five seconds faster from earlier in the season, leaving plenty of potential to ascend the ranks with more experience under the belts.
As a sophomore virtually in her first year, Moore was the team’s fastest sprinter at 13.35 seconds in the 100 and 200 meter dash events. Coming off a state meet bid in cross country this past October, sophomore Lily Myers looks to build on her success last season as a leader in all of the distance events.
The Jayettes’ first official meet will be on March 31 in Bondurant. They will be at home three days later for their annual Jayette Relays hosting five other programs.

One goal away from advancing to the state championship game, the Bluejays come back with high hopes for a return ticket to Mediacom Stadium to play under the brightest lights of the season.
Last season the Jays were led by sophomore Jacobo Cerna-Gomez’s 26 goals and 11 assists to earn all-state honors as the first Perry player in recent memory to hit double digits in both categories. Junior Jonatan Banuelos wasn’t far behind with 13 and nine, respectively.
Perry’s season begins Monday at ADM.
