For the first time in OHL history, the Peterborough Petes will have the first-overall pick at the upcoming OHL Priority Selection.

Each of the four teams that missed the playoffs, Peterborough, Guelph, Sarnia and Ottawa, took part in the draft lottery.

As the last-place team this season, Peterborough had the greatest odds (40 percent) of taking the top pick. Meanwhile, Guelph (30 percent), Sarnia (20 percent) and Ottawa (10 percent) all had lesser odds based on their finish in the standings.

Guelph took the second pick while Ottawa managed to jump up to third, leaving Sarnia to pick fourth.

OHL Cup Day 2 Top PerformersDay two of the 2025 OHL Cup has concluded, and two teams have already clinched a spot in the quarterfinals. Four games needed overtime, two of which were played by the York Simcoe Express.
The first overall pick grants Peterborough the opportunity to jumpstart a rebuild already in progress. The franchise has been in rebuild mode since winning the J. Ross Robertson Cup two years ago.

Adding a top pick to their young core led by Aidan Young, Caden Taylor and 2024 third-overall pick Colin Fitzgerald could be a huge leap forward for Peterborough next season.

The first round of the OHL Priority Selection will be as follows:

1. Peterborough
2. Guelph
3. Ottawa
4. Sarnia
5. Owen Sound
6. North Bay
7. Sault Ste. Marie
8. Flint
9. Kingston*
10. Niagara
11. Sudbury
12. Erie
13. Saginaw
14. Brampton
15. Brampton*
16. Oshawa
17. Kingston
18. Barrie
19. Sault Ste. Marie*
20. Brantford
21. Windsor
22. Kitchener
23. London

The 2025 OHL Priority Selection will focus on the 2009-born draft class. Interestingly, there is no consensus on who the top pick in the draft will be. Despite this, there is a feeling that the 2009-born group is solid with plenty of talent available.
