As everyone knows the Colts have looked terrible w/o Peyton Manning this PS. And it seems that his health is a big concern and it's possible that he won't be able to play a whole year. Or maybe not play at all. Possibly/probably the Colts finish last and end up with Andrew Luck. It's a possibility.

I remember when Emmitt Smith or Michael Irvin would miss all of PS and then come back against the Cardinals and gain 100 yards.

(Couldn't do that now though. Watching the replay our 3rd string guys looked as big and as quick as some of those old Cardinal teams.)

Knowing how things work Manning will miss the opener AT Houston and show up ready to go vs the Browns in a tuneup for the Steelers. :D

I guess I missed it... I knew he wasn't playing in pre-season but why?

What happened to Manning?

He had neck surgery, his 2nd neck procedure in the past 2 years. Peyton will be fine, the colts PR machine is just trying to build a story to gain publicity. He'll continue to start, and continue to dmn8 :)

He had neck surgery.

Last QB to start for the Colts (in a regular season game) not named Peyton Manning:

Jim Harbaugh in 1997

Considering they just signed Peyton to a 5 year $90 million deal I think they would pass on Luck and take someone else. That said Peyton is going to be just fine.

Unless the news out of Camp Manning is much more positive, I'm going to pass on him in my Fantasy Draft.

I could see that. All the other teams who need a QB lose out to the Colts after Manning is forced to hang it up...and the Colts get don't miss a beat with Luck and the pain goes on for other teams without a franchise QB. It is typical of the way luck in the NFL will be given out with QB Luck lol

Apparently, local radio in Indy has a guy saying a 3rd procedure was done on Sunday or Monday and that Manning's season is indeed in jeopardy.

Spurs tanked a season originally to get David Robinson.

Year before Tim Duncan came out, Robinson was hurt, and held out the entire year, Spurs again finished with worst record, and were able to draft Duncan.

Maybe they tanked the season to get Duncan, but why would you not want a guy on your team that never committed a foul in his life?

Got this in an email/twitter update:

The latest on Colts QB Peyton Manning. Jake Query, a radio host on WNDE in
Indianapolis is reporting that sources are telling him that Peyton Manning
is out for the year.

Query posted this on his twitter feed today:

"What I (Query) said: A source I consider reliable told me he is out for the
season. I do believe that the actual diagnosis is still being determined"

Query then followed that with: "I (Query) was also told the 3rd procedure has
taken place, either Sun or Monday."

Understand that this is not official by any stretch. This is a radio host in
Indianapolis (that I don't know much about) saying this is what his sources
are telling him.

Indy radio host says Manning will miss entire season

Posted by Mike Florio on September 7, 2011, 6:34 PM EDT

AP
On Sunday, John Michael Vincent of ESPN 1070 in Indianapolis reported that Colts quarterback Peyton Manning needs another surgical procedure on his neck. Though the team kind-of/sort-of indirectly denied it, JMV was at least in the right church (even if occupying the wrong pew), given the flurry of reports and developments that followed JMV’s information.

Now, another Indianapolis radio host is upping the ante.

Jake Query of WNDE, citing two unnamed sources whom he trusts, reports that Manning already has had another procedure on his neck, and that he’ll miss the entire 2011 season.

Manning’s status remains cloaked in mystery, in part because the team is likely sharing the bare minimum — and in part because the condition from which he suffers involves complex neurological issues that can’t be addressed by taking two aspirin or “wanting it.” But with afternoon drive-time host in Manning’s home market reporting that Manning’s condition is far more serious than currently believed, it’s not too early to at least consider whether we’ll see Manning play at all in 2011.

Or 2012. Or ever.

I don't think they tanked that whole season by any means. The tanking occurred late when they fired the head coach and Pop moved into that spot. Both Robinson and Elliott were shut down for the last few games (several?) ostensibly for injury and yes, it appeared they could have played if the games mattered. But there were real injuries involved for the meat of the season. I think the chance a team enters the season in any major sport with the intention of tanking is incredibly small and I don't think it will ever occur in the NFL.
