PFW - Pete Carroll to the Cards?

Speculation by Hub Arkush in Pro Football Weekly:

"Dennis Green has to be done in Arizona, doesn’t he? He certainly should be, and the fun question worth keeping an eye on is what Pete Carroll would say if he’s offered complete control of the Cardinals franchise. Reggie Bush may be the greatest kid in the world, but the bottom line is that his folks broke all kinds of NCAA rules for compensation while he was at USC, and the other shoe has to drop eventually. Whether or not Carroll is guilty or completely innocent, it seems logical he would accept a windfall to get out of L.A. in front of the posse."

This is probably the only way he could possibly come here.

Unlikely but note, I posted this on the college group, Bush recently fired marketing rep Mike Ornstein and people are already wondering is the notorious hothead Ornstein mad enough to "spill the beans" on Bush? If he did, then you could see Carroll leave.

I still don't think he's a great NFL coach, too nice a guy.

It doesn't matter if a guy is nice or not, but whether he is able to command respect. Usually being a jerk helps in commanding respect, but not always. He wouldn't be my first choice by any means though.

By nice I mean he wants to be friends with players. That works in college, it doesn't work in the NFL. It's why the Vikings hired Green over Carroll(he was already on their staff) and it's why both of his NFL HC jobs ended and why he wasn't hired by the 49ers, everyone said he's simply too friendly with the players they like him but they don't necessarily respect him because he's too nice.

What would help their ticket base is spend whatever money it would take to hire Ron Wolf as a GM. Make it a simple two year contract. He hires the coach and his successor.

Couldn't agree more. If the Cards have learned one thing it should be that their fans are not idiots. Signing Edge or Emmitt or a big name guy is not enough, the fans want a competitive team and to do that, they have to change the way they do business and that starts with getting a real GM and letting him do his job without interference by the bidwills.

That would be nice. The point that I was making is that although they have a nice revenue stream with the sold out new stadium, corporate sponsors and corporate boxes, they need to clean house in the offseason. They need to give the fans something to give them hope or start seeing empty seats. The lure of a new stadium gets old with a losing product. A new GM and HC would be a good start.

I don't know. I sometimes feel like an idiot for caring about this team year after year. My wife and friends think I have a problem.

If they don't do this, say if they just keep Graves and let him be essentially the front for Mike and his dad bumbling along as the real GM's of this team, I'm going to be convinced this whole thing is just a waste of time. It seems so obvious to me, that the Bidwills aren't ever going to give up enough control for anyone to change what after this year, has a very strong claim to being the worst franchise in sports. If they can't bring in a strong GM, if its just this same ridiculous BS, I'm going to take a hard look at how much more money and time I'm going to spend on this team. I definitely no longer believe our number has to come up sometime-the way I used to. I really believe these Bidwills can keep this team as the bottom feeder, parity and high draft picks be damned, in perpetuity.

Look, my father-in-law has rooted for the Chicago Cubs for...um, eternity. Their games sell out, their fans suffer through losing season after season, and nobody says that Cub fans are idiots for enduring another losing year. Instead, new customers line up and hope that somebody has given up their season ticket for the next year.

Here's my thought: If your wife and friends live in AZ and root for some other team just because they gotta cheer for a winner...I've got no use for 'em. You might want to be careful, too. Your sweet wife may decide to drop you for your more successful neighbor.

I've suffered with the Arizona Cardinals for fourteen years because it's MY TEAM. Despite the Bidwells, despite the coach, despite the incredible losses and sick-to-my-stomach feeling that comes every Monday...it's the only pro football team I give a d*mn about.

the November issue of "Cigar Aficionado" has an article with Pete Carroll - he's not leaving. He just extended his lucrative USC contract and enjoys the college atmosphere over the NFL.

couldn't agree LESS....with one sentence....NO...it is obviously not in the bidwill genes to hire somebody and walk away and watch...that cannot happen....ron wolf for 3 years setting the front office up and finding the right coach is too logical...but he won't have the freedom needed to make it happen...old news the miserable franchises in all sports over the years have one common denominator...ownership has been around for a long time and continue to meddle...even an old warhorse like al davis who may have been a "genius" over the years has overstayed his welcome for well over a decade....hiring shell and walsh are perfect indications that it has been game over for a long long time.
